Hawthorn East

Accounts Officer

- Premium Australian fashion retailer, Hawthorn East head office
- $77,000 plus superannuation, clothing allowance and staff discount
- End-to-end ownership of AP and AR, AP21 experience essential

The Organisation

Our client is a premium Australian fashion retailer, established for more than twenty years and known for considered, contemporary ready-to-wear. The business operates 24 boutiques nationally alongside a growing online channel. The Hawthorn East head office is home to a team of approximately 50.

The Role

Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Accounts Officer owns the accounts payable and accounts receivable function from end to end. This is a standalone position within a finance team of four, and the work is hands-on and transactional in nature.

Accounts payable covers two distinct streams. The first is general operating expenditure. The second is the overseas supplier creditors book, which requires close liaison with the shipping team to verify quantities and costings, and to match invoices against purchase orders before they are processed. Accounts receivable is a smaller function covering a wholesale customer book of 12 to 15 accounts, involving monthly statements and periodic follow-up.

The successful candidate will take genuine ownership of the function, with the autonomy to resolve existing processing issues and to shape how the work is run.

The finance team is small and purposeful, and the organisation is seeking someone who will take pride in this work and remain in the role for the long term.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage end-to-end accounts payable, including supplier invoices, authorisations and payment runs

- Process the overseas supplier creditors book, matching invoices to purchase orders and liaising with the shipping team to adjust quantities and costings prior to processing
- Manage accounts receivable across a wholesale customer book of 12 to 15 accounts, including monthly statements and follow-up of outstanding amounts
- Complete bank reconciliations and month-end reconciliation of company credit cards
- Maintain general ledger and Chart of Accounts integrity, ensuring all transactions are authorised and correctly allocated
- Identify and resolve processing errors, and improve procedures where efficiencies can be gained
- Respond to supplier, customer and internal account enquiries accurately and promptly

Key Selection Criteria

Essential

- A Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance
- A minimum of three years experience in a similar accounts role, ideally within the retail or fashion industry
- Experience and a good working knowledge of AP21, together with knowledge of Xero
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel

- Excellent communication skills for interacting with internal teams, suppliers and customers
- Solid attention to detail, with initiative for process improvement and the ability to manage conflicting priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Confidence operating as the sole owner of a function, with the resilience and self-sufficiency this requires
- Full and unrestricted working rights in Australia
- Availability to work five days per week on site in Hawthorn East

Desirable

- Experience within a multi-site retail or wholesale business
- Exposure to improving or implementing finance processes and systems

The Benefits

- Permanent full-time position with a well-established Australian brand
- Clothing allowance and a generous staff discount across the collections
- A small, capable finance team with direct access to the Head of Finance and Finance Manager
- Genuine ownership of the function and the autonomy to improve how it operates
- A settled, stable team environment at the Hawthorn East head office
