Gold Coast

At Queensland Airports Limited (QAL), we’re investing in a up-to-date enterprise data platform to improve how information is connected, understood and applied across our airports.

We’re looking for an Applied Intelligence Product Specialist to join our growing Applied Intelligence team. This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of data, technology and business, translating complex operational and commercial challenges into trusted data products, advanced analytics and practical AI-enabled solutions.

Working closely with Technology, our Senior Data Warehouse Analyst and stakeholders across the business, you’ll help turn QAL’s platform investment into valuable new capabilities while supporting better decisions and more efficient ways of working.

What Our People Say

“What I value most about QAL is the collaborative culture. Team members actively share knowledge, support one another’s growth and are encouraged to bring new ideas. It’s a supportive and motivating environment, and I’m proud to be part of the organisation.”

Aryan Thakur, Support Analyst

About the Role

Reporting to the GM Applied Intelligence, you’ll:

- Partner with stakeholders to understand business challenges and identify valuable data, analytics and AI opportunities.
- Interrogate and validate complex operational and commercial data from multiple business systems.
- Translate business needs into well-defined data products, analytical solutions and AI-enabled capabilities.
- Contribute to data models, semantic definitions, business rules, performance measures and data-quality controls.
- Develop and improve business intelligence and analytical solutions, including Power BI products.
- Shape product discovery, roadmaps, priorities, user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Identify and evaluate appropriate applications of large language models, advanced analytics and machine learning.
- Explore ways to ground AI outputs in trusted enterprise information and enable controlled, multi-step workflows.
- Coordinate testing, implementation, adoption, value measurement and continuous improvement.
- Build data literacy and confidence in the use of trusted information across QAL.

Close collaboration with Technology will be fundamental to the role. You’ll help shape valuable business use cases and work with Technology, data specialists and external partners to ensure solutions are secure, integrated, supported, governed and aligned with QAL’s enterprise architecture.

About You

You combine practical data capability with curiosity, sound judgement and strong product thinking. You enjoy working through complex problems, testing ideas and translating technical concepts into solutions people can understand and use.

You’ll build productive relationships across technical and non-technical teams, communicate clearly and keep delivery focused on measurable business value.

You’ll bring

- Relevant qualifications in Data Analytics, Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Business or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Practical experience in data analytics, business intelligence, data products or a related field.
- The ability to use SQL to interrogate, validate and analyse data.
- Experience developing or contributing to business intelligence solutions, ideally using Power BI.
- An understanding of data modelling, semantic layers, business rules, data quality and governance.
- Practical exposure to applied AI through professional experience, formal study or substantial project work.
- An understanding of how contemporary AI solutions use trusted information, connect with systems and operate within appropriate controls.
- Knowledge of product-management practices, including discovery, roadmaps, prioritisation, user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication and stakeholder-engagement skills.
- The ability to collaborate effectively with Technology and other technical specialists.

Experience in one or more of the following areas will be highly regarded:
- Python and advanced data analysis.
- Modern cloud data and analytics platforms.
- Advanced analytics and machine learning.
- Large language models, prompt design and AI evaluation.
- Retrieval-augmented generation and enterprise knowledge solutions.
- AI agents, tool-enabled workflows and human approval controls.
- APIs and other methods of securely connecting AI applications with enterprise systems.
- Product management, business analysis or digital-transformation initiatives.

This isn’t a data-engineering or AI-research position, but it does require technical credibility. You’ll need to be comfortable working directly with data, understand how modern data and AI solutions are assembled, assess what is feasible and work with technical specialists to turn promising ideas into secure, sustainable enterprise capabilities.

Why QAL?

- The opportunity to help shape emerging data,

analytics and AI capabilities across QAL.
- Close collaboration with business, Applied Intelligence and Technology teams.
- Exposure to complex operational, commercial and customer challenges.
- A supportive and inclusive workplace where diverse perspectives are valued.
- Learning, development and career-growth opportunities.
- A collaborative environment where people are encouraged to share ideas and challenge thinking constructively.
