Mechanical Technician – Water Supply
Programmed | Melbourne, Victoria Full-Time Position
Programmed is seeking an experienced and safety-focused Mechanical Technician to join our Water Supply maintenance team. This role supports the maintenance and reliability of critical Melbourne Water infrastructure across treatment plants, pumping stations, reservoirs and other operational sites.
About the Role
As a Mechanical Technician, you will carry out planned and reactive maintenance to ensure water supply assets remain safe, reliable and operational.
Key responsibilities include
- Completing planned, corrective and breakdown maintenance.
- Inspecting, servicing and repairing pumps, valves, gearboxes, pipework and other mechanical equipment.
- Diagnosing faults and supporting equipment reliability improvements.
- Performing equipment overhauls, installations and component replacements.
- Completing work orders, service reports and maintenance records accurately.
- Identifying hazards, defects and emerging asset risks.
- Participating in pre-starts, toolbox meetings and risk assessments.
- Working safely in operational environments, including confined spaces and at heights.
- Supporting emergency response and after-hours callouts when required.
- Working closely with supervisors, planners, operators and other trades.
About You
To be successful, you will ideally have:
- A recognised Mechanical Trade qualification, such as Mechanical Fitter or Fitter and Turner.
- Experience maintaining pumps, valves, pipelines and rotating equipment.
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in water, utilities, heavy industry, manufacturing or a similar environment.
- A robust understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
- The ability to interpret technical drawings, procedures and maintenance instructions.
- Good communication, teamwork and documentation skills.
- A current Australian driver’s licence.
- The ability to participate in an after-hours on-call roster where required.
The following qualifications would be highly regarded:
- Confined Space Entry.
- Working Safely at Heights.
- Construction Industry White Card.
- Gas Test Atmospheres.
- High-Risk Work Licence, including forklift, dogging or rigging.
- First Aid and CPR.
- Experience using computerised maintenance management systems.
