St John's Anglican Church
Location: Camden
Location type: On-Site
Date advertised: 14th September 2026
Job Type: Full time
Closing Date: When the role is filled
St John’s is a growing Anglican church in Greater South-West Sydney, seeking to appoint a godly, humble and passionate long-term Assistant Minister.
We are looking for a servant-hearted leader who loves Christ, loves people and longs to see more people come to saving faith in Jesus. This is an opportunity to join a warm, committed staff team and help shape the next season of ministry at St John’s.
The role
Our ministry is organised around five key portfolios:
Love God
Love God’s Word
Love People
Love the Lost
Love Serving
Rather than asking the right person to fit a rigid, predetermined position description, we intend to shape the role around his gifts, experience and ministry passions. The successful applicant will take primary responsibility for growing our church in one or two of these areas, with the final portfolio responsibilities determined through conversation.
The role will include
Preaching regularly across two or three (and sometimes four) of our four Sunday services.
Faithfully and practically teaching the Bible in a range of ministry settings.
Leading one or two of our five ministry portfolios.
Identifying, developing and empowering leaders and volunteers.
Building healthy teams and releasing people into meaningful ministry.
Providing thoughtful pastoral care to members of our church and community.
Conducting baptisms, weddings and funerals.
Initiating and completing ministry projects, both independently and collaboratively.
Sharing in the wider life, leadership and mission of St John’s.
The person we are seeking
We are looking for a man whose life and ministry are shaped by a deep love for Christ, devotion to prayer and a strong desire to see people converted, discipled and matured in Jesus.
He will be
Gracious, humble and teachable in character.
A faithful, clear, engaging and practical Bible teacher who seeks to live out what he teaches.
Grounded in Reformed evangelical theology.
A gifted preacher capable of communicating to different congregations and generations.
Warm and relational, able to form meaningful connections and provide wise pastoral care.
A track record of leading teams, developing leaders and empowering others for ministry.
A team player who collaborates generously and contributes positively to staff culture.
A servant leader who can joyfully lead others while also being a joy to lead.
Able to work appropriately under authority and receive feedback well.
A peacemaker who pursues healthy relationships and helps others navigate conflict wisely.
Self-motivated and capable of taking projects from an initial idea through to completion.
Devoted to prayer and able to lead his household well.
Previous pastoral ministry experience is strongly valued. A theological degree is preferred, and ordination—or candidacy for ordination—in the Anglican Diocese of Sydney would be an advantage.
Proficiency with everyday computer software is expected, together with a willingness to learn platforms such as MS Teams, Canva and Elvanto.
Stipend and conditions
Stipend will be provided according to Sydney Diocesan recommendations and will reflect the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience.
Housing or an appropriate housing allowance will also be provided.
The successful applicant must hold:
A current Working With Children Check.
Current Protected Ministry clearance.
The right to work in Australia.
Commencement
We would be delighted for the successful applicant to begin in early 2027. However, we are willing to accommodate the right person’s existing commitments.
