Organisation backgroundThe Y is a community not-for-profit and the oldest youth organisation in the world with a history dating back to 1844. The Y Ballarat is one of the largest Early Years Management providers in Victoria - operating as Y Kinders with close to 100 locations, 5,000 weekly participants and over 700 staff. We also provide further education and engagement services through our Outside School Hours Care (OSHC), Swimming Lessons and Youth and Community programs.

We are committed in delivering on our belief statement “We believe in the power of inspired young people” by engaging and supporting young people in our communities through our program and service streams.

The Y Ballarat has been on an extraordinary journey over the past 5+ years that includes a merger with the Grampians YMCA association, supporting communities through the impact of the 2019/20 bushfires in Eastern Victoria,



navigating the COVID-19 pandemic and finally welcoming an additional metropolitan 35 kindergarten services to our portfolio.

The Y Ballarat is at the start of delivering the Integrated Strategic Plan 2026-2030 and will continue implementing the “Best Start, Best Life” Victorian Kindergarten reform that will see us continue to through to 2036. We continue to expand our services and programs in our Youth and Education services having established education re-engagement programs and the opening of Y School Ballarat in 2027.

We’re looking for leaders in finance, business strategy and corporate governance, with skills in early childhood education and care and secondary education sectors to join us to contribute to meaningful outcomes for young people and the community.
