Help shape the future of the visitor economy across the Mornington Peninsula and Frankston
Mornington Peninsula Regional Tourism (MPRT) is the official Visitor Economy Partnership for the Mornington Peninsula and Frankston. Working in partnership with the Victorian Government, local government and industry, MPRT provides strategic leadership for the region’s visitor economy.
Our strategy is focused on three clear priorities:
- Driving visitor demand
- Enhancing the visitor experience
- Helping our businesses grow
As we enter this key new chapter, MPRT is seeking expressions of interest from experienced and passionate individuals to join our skills-based Board. Multiple voluntary Director positions are available, including a priority appointment for an experienced Treasurer.
Treasurer
We are particularly seeking a financially experienced Director to serve as Treasurer and contribute to the Board’s Finance, Audit and Risk Committee.
The successful candidate will bring strong financial governance, accounting, audit, risk management and commercial experience. A CA, CPA or equivalent professional qualification would be highly regarded but is not essential.
Other Board positions
We are seeking candidates who understand the opportunities and challenges facing tourism and the broader visitor economy across the Mornington Peninsula and Frankston.
Applications are encouraged from people with experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Tourism, hospitality and the visitor economy
- Small business ownership and operation
- Golf and golf tourism
- Farmgates, food, wine and agritourism
- Wellness and wellbeing tourism
- Nature-based and adventure tourism
- Destination development and visitor experience
- Consumer Events
- Legal, governance, finance, audit and risk
- Sustainability and accessible tourism
Strong knowledge of the Mornington Peninsula and/or Frankston visitor economy will be highly regarded.
About the role
Directors will actively contribute to the strategic direction and effective governance of MPRT, supporting our work to drive demand, enhance the visitor experience and help businesses grow.
Successful candidates will be expected to:
- Apply sound governance and independent judgement
- Contribute constructively to Board discussions and strategic planning
- Understand and uphold the responsibilities of a Director
- Act in the best interests of MPRT and the regional visitor economy
- Participate in relevant Board sub-committees
- Attend and support key industry events
- Serve as an ambassador for MPRT and the region
- Commit sufficient time to prepare for and participate in meetings
The Board meets six times each year, including a full-day strategy session. Directors will also be expected to participate in relevant sub-committee meetings and attend selected industry events. These are voluntary positions.
Selection criteria
Candidates should demonstrate:
- Relevant professional, industry or business experience
- Strategic thinking and sound commercial judgement
- An understanding of contemporary governance and Directors’ responsibilities
- The ability to work collaboratively as part of a skills-based Board
- A genuine commitment to a strong, sustainable and inclusive visitor economy
- The capacity to meet the time commitments associated with the role
Previous board experience will be highly regarded but is not essential where candidates can demonstrate relevant governance capability, industry leadership or specialist expertise.
