About the role:
An exceptional opportunity exists for a commercially astute senior finance leader to become the foundational Chief Financial Officer of Daybreak Family Office, established by Luke Mader, founder of Mader Group. Daybreak oversees a growing and increasingly sophisticated portfolio of private companies, trusts, investments, property and other assets, with the potential to include complex international structures. The CFO will bring these interests together within a coordinated financial framework, strengthening visibility, control and commercial decision-making across the private group.
This is not a conventional CFO appointment within an established corporate finance function. It is a rare opportunity to build and shape the financial capability of an emerging family office from the ground up. The successful candidate will establish the financial infrastructure, reporting, controls, investment disciplines and adviser relationships required to support Daybreak’s continued growth and development.
The position will initially carry a meaningful investment focus. Working closely with Luke Mader, the CFO will play an active role in assessing, executing and overseeing investment opportunities while helping to shape Daybreak’s longer-term investment strategy and capability.
The successful candidate will combine technical financial expertise with strong commercial judgement, investment experience and the confidence to operate as a trusted adviser to a highly successful entrepreneur.
Key responsibilities:
- Consolidate and professionalise financial management across Daybreak’s entities, investments, property interests, trusts and associated structures.
- Establish clear and reliable visibility of assets, liabilities, ownership, cash flow, commitments and financial exposures.
- Develop fit-for-purpose financial reporting, systems, controls, treasury and governance arrangements.
- Take ownership of budgeting, forecasting,
statutory reporting, tax-effect accounting and cash flow management.
- Play an active role in the assessment, due diligence, execution and ongoing monitoring of investment opportunities.
- Provide financial modelling, valuation and commercial analysis to support investment and capital-allocation decisions.
- Maintain oversight of liquidity, investment performance, concentration, risk, debt and banking relationships.
- Manage and challenge external accountants, tax specialists, lawyers, investment advisers and other professional service providers.
- Identify financial, taxation, structural, investment and liquidity risks and ensure they are appropriately managed.
- Help establish a scalable operating model and determine the future structure and capability of the family office.
About you:
You will be an accomplished senior finance leader with the technical capability, commercial maturity and personal credibility to establish and lead a sophisticated family office finance function.
You will bring
- Substantial senior finance leadership experience gained within a commercially complex environment.
- Strong technical financial accounting capability, including practical tax-effect accounting experience.
- Experience working across companies, trusts, investments, property or other private assets.
- Practical involvement in the evaluation, execution, management or oversight of investments.
- Robust financial modelling, commercial analysis and decision-support capability.
- The ability to operate strategically while remaining comfortable working in the detail.
- Proven leadership experience, including setting expectations and holding people and advisers accountable.
- The confidence to manage external advisers while controlling their scope, cost and contribution.
- Strong commercial instincts and sound judgement in complex or unconventional situations.
- Exceptional discretion, integrity and personal accountability.
- A relevant tertiary qualification and professional accounting designation, such as CA or CPA.
Applications are welcomed from experienced CFOs as well as accomplished General Managers of Finance, Heads of Finance, Group Financial Controllers and other senior finance leaders who are ready to step into a position of this breadth and accountability. Experience within a family office, private investment setting, successful founder-led business or international structure will be highly regarded.
