Ipswich
Ipswich, QLD | More than a drawing board.
You've built a solid reputation over the last four or five years as a civil drafter who gets it right — clean, accurate work, projects that don't come back with questions. This role offers more than that: a seat closer to the engineering, site time for context, and real room to grow into design if that's the direction you want to take.
That's what's on offer here. About the Business
Our client is a well-established, Australian-owned engineering consultancy with more than 40 years in the industry — not a big-city corporate outfit, but a genuinely regional, relaxed and tight-knit practice that has quietly built reliable depth across civil, bridges, heavy industrial and commercial engineering.
Plenty of the team have been there for well over a decade, and the last couple of years have brought fresh energy — new leadership investing in the business and strengthening what it offers, without losing the culture that made people stay in the first place. The team works across several offices and locations, including team members based remotely well outside those office walls, and works seamlessly as one unit regardless of postcode. Walk into any of their offices and you'll see people actually talking to each other — not heads down in silence.
The Opportunity An opportunity now exists within the civil team, based out of Ipswich, for an experienced Civil Drafter — or someone ready to make the move from drafting into design.
This isn't a role where you sit in the corner churning out drawings in isolation. You'll be exposed to the engineering behind the documentation, invited onto sites for context, and given room to shape where you take it from here — whether that's deepening your documentation and quality skills, moving into digital engineering and BIM, or expanding into design work using 12D.
About the Role
- Producing accurate,
high-quality civil drawings and documentation for urban development and infrastructure projects
- Working closely with engineers day-to-day — understanding design intent, not just drafting to instruction
- Getting out to site for context on the projects you're documenting
- Genuine scope to specialise — documentation and quality or design using 12D
- Working as part of a collaborative, multi-location team that functions as one, wherever people are based
About You
- Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Certificate in CAD/drafting (or equivalent)
- 4–5 years' practical civil drafting experience on urban development or infrastructure projects, ideally gained in Australia
- High-level AutoCAD skills; exposure to 12D highly regarded
- More than technical ability — curiosity, drive and the right attitude matter as much as the years on your CV
What's on Offer
- $90,000–$110,000 package, matched to experience — but the person matters more than the number
- Genuine exposure to engineering, not drafting in isolation
- A relaxed, friendly, close-knit culture within a long-established and growing practice
- Flexibility — the team already works seamlessly across multiple locations
- Room to define your own path forward, whatever direction that takes
