About The Land Network Integration Centre The Land Network Integration Centre (LNIC) advises and directs Army on its digital network integration efforts to maximise interoperability across Land, Joint and Coalition interface boundaries and meet critical information exchange requirements through approved interfaces and standards.
The intent is to ensure Army's investments are integrated to maximise the operational functions of individual projects within the Army Operating System.
The LNIC includes specialist functions covering systems-of-systems integration Test & Evaluation, Battle Labs, digital design using Model Based Systems Engineering, integration and security advice, specialist systems engineering and AI Governance and Assurance.
About The Role The Commonwealth requires a Senior Services Engineer to supplement the contractor workforce within LNIC.
The position operates at Advanced Practitioner level , applying systems engineering principles to the integration, assurance and testing of complex, interdependent mission systems.
The role requires a senior technical practitioner with strong experience in:
- System integration.
- Design evolution.
- Configuration control.
- Engineering support and maintenance.
- Alignment of integrated systems used for integration, test and validation activities.
The supported environment includes application, information, network and mission-command systems operating across multiple security boundaries and operational contexts. This is primarily a technical, hands-on engineering position within a small specialist team, working across system integration, Test & Evaluation and incremental design-evolution activities.
Key Deliverables & Responsibilities
- Maintain authoritative system design and architecture documentation covering integrated configurations,
interfaces, dependencies and design intent.
- Maintain continuous technical engagement with Defence ICT and relevant stakeholders.
- Deliver just-in-time technical training and mentor ADF personnel.
- Provide responsive Level 3 technical support and routine system/operating-workplace maintenance.
- Participate in project Test & Evaluation and Risk Reduction events.
- Conduct engineering configuration management of hardware, software and system artefacts across fixed and deployable production domains.
- Conduct technical integration testing before configuration updates or releases.
- Support innovation proposals and integration of additional systems, including Army battle-management systems, mission applications and partner-network capabilities.
- Develop CIS technical documentation for Joint and Coalition activities, including Joining, Membership and Exiting Instructions (JMEI), networking instructions and NETOPS artefacts.
- Produce written and oral engineering reports following test, integration and validation activities.
- Provide system-level technical advice through the Land Integration Framework – Digital (LIF-D).
- Contribute to innovation activities involving emerging technologies, architectures and integration approaches.
- Support the Coalition Services Engineering Lead.
- Provide authoritative technical advice to ADF, APS and contractor personnel.
- Perform other ad hoc services as tasked by SO2 and SO3 Validate or their delegate.
Mandatory Qualifications & Experience Candidates must demonstrate:
- Experience engineering and integrating complex ICT systems using systems and software engineering practices across requirements analysis, interface management, configuration control,
integration testing, verification, validation and integration-issue resolution.
- Experience engineering, integrating and sustaining complex enterprise applications and information-system environments.
- Ability to implement, assess and maintain security controls aligned with the Information Security Manual (ISM) and Essential Eight.
- Strong understanding of LAN and WAN engineering, including IP addressing, routing, DNS, DHCP and network segmentation.
- Ability to operate as a senior technical practitioner and provide authoritative engineering advice without oversight.
- Ability to work in person at the primary facility. Interstate applicants must explicitly address their willingness to relocate.
- Hold, or be able to obtain, a minimum NV2 security clearance.
Highly Desirable
- Postgraduate qualifications or formal Systems Engineering training, or equivalent experience.
- Deployable LAN experience or other-nation equivalent.
- Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, federation mechanisms and PKI.
- Scripting/automation/software development using technologies such as PowerShell, Bash or Ansible.
- Windows 11 and Windows Server 2022+ SOE design, configuration and management.
- System-of-systems engineering experience.
- System architecture and Interface Control Documentation experience.
- Technical integration testing, risk-reduction, acceptance-testing or trials experience.
- Software development or systems integration involving applications including XMPP Chat, mail relay and proxy services.
- Mobile Device Management, End User Device configuration and application/binary whitelisting experience.
Desirable Experience
- Configuration management across complex hardware and software systems.
- Deployable, Joint or Coalition ICT/mission systems.
- Technical reports and engineering assessments for senior decision-makers.
- Defence capability development, integration, Test & Evaluation or experimentation environments.
- Understanding of FVEY networks, systems and processes.
