The Centre for Non-Violence (CNV) is seeking an experienced and strategic communications professional to lead advocacy, media engagement, public affairs and social change campaigns that advance CNV's vision of gender and social equality for all.

About the Role The Communications and Advocacy Lead (Part-time - 0.8 FTE) is a key role that advances CNV's vision of gender and social equality through impactful communications, advocacy and public engagement. Working closely with the CEO and Executive Team, the role leads integrated media, advocacy and campaign initiatives that elevate lived experience, increase community understanding of family violence, and influence policy and systems reform. As a trusted adviser, the Communications and Advocacy Lead helps position CNV as a respected and influential voice for gender equity and social justice across government, media, the sector and the broader community.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead advocacy, media and public affairs initiatives to influence policy, funding and legislative outcomes.
- Design and deliver integrated communications and social change campaigns that drive awareness, engagement and organisational objectives.
- Provide expert communications advice and media support to the CEO, Executive and senior leaders, including speechwriting and stakeholder engagement.
- Monitor emerging policy, political and reputational issues, providing analysis,



briefings and rapid response communications.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with government, sector and community stakeholders to strengthen advocacy outcomes and organisational influence.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications To be considered for this role you will have:

- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Public Policy, Social Sciences, Political Science or a related discipline or equivalent professional experience
- Demonstrated experience in strategic communications, public affairs, advocacy, media relations or government relations.
- Exceptional written communication skills, including experience preparing media materials, executive briefings, speeches and policy related documents.
- Experience developing and delivering advocacy campaigns and stakeholder engagement strategies.
- Solid understanding of government decision making processes, public policy development and media environments.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities and respond effectively to emerging issues.
- Highly developed relationship management, influencing and stakeholder engagement skills.




- Sound understanding of gender equality and the drivers and impacts of family and gender-based violence, with a commitment to feminist, culturally safe, equitable, inclusive, and trauma-informed practice.
