St Stephen’s School is seeking an experienced and inspirational educational leader to join our leadership team at the Duncraig campus as Deputy Head of Primary (PK - Year 2) to commence in Term 1, 2027. This opportunity arises as the current Deputy Head transitions into a promotional executive role at another Independent School, providing continuity while building on strong leadership and learning practices.
About the Role
This role requires a balance of strategic leadership, operational oversight and relational leadership, with an expectation that the Deputy Head remains actively connected to classroom practice, professional learning and student outcomes.
The Deputy Head of Primary has responsibility for the leadership and day-to-day management of Years PK - 2, within a Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 school model. Working closely with the Head of Campus and Primary leadership team, the successful candidate will continue to drive excellence in teaching, learning and student wellbeing, while supporting staff and contributing to whole-school initiatives.
This role requires a balance of strategic leadership, operational oversight and relational leadership, with an expectation that the Deputy Head remains actively connected to classroom practice, professional learning and student outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strong educational leadership for staff and students in Years PK - Year 2
- Deputise for the Head of Campus as required
- Lead and support high-quality teaching and learning practices
- Support student wellbeing, behaviour and pastoral care
- Coach and mentor staff to achieve continuous improvement
- Foster positive, faith-aligned relationships with students, families and staff
- Collaborate with deputies across Early Years and Secondary to support whole-school priorities and transitions
- Promote a strong culture of child safety, wellbeing and compliance
- Active alignment, participation and support to the Christian culture of the School, and commitment to the School’s values

- Experience in and a preparedness to contribute to the School’s camping, retreat and extra-curricular programs.

- Participate in the injury management and return to work process for staff returning from a work and/or non-work related injury or illness
