About the opportunity

ROC Communications is seeking an experienced Team Leader - Drilling to lead HDD crews delivering major telecommunications and civil infrastructure projects across Victoria and NSW. Based from our new Laverton North (Melbourne) facility, you'll be responsible for overseeing a directional drilling crew, operating drill rigs, and ensuring safe, high-quality project delivery across metro and regional works.

Key responsibilities

- Lead, mentor and coordinate directional drilling crews on telecommunications and civil infrastructure projects
- Operate Vermeer and/or Ditch Witch drilling rigs
- Maintain accurate bore alignment and tracking
- Undertake service locating and interpret underground asset information
- Read and interpret construction drawings and Dial Before You Dig (DBYD) plans
- Ensure works are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with project specifications, quality standards, and timelines
- Complete daily reporting and site documentation
- Manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Ensure equipment maintenance and readiness
- Liaise with Supervisors, Project Managers and clients
- Work across metro and regional sites and travel as required
- Work varied shifts, including night works with notice

About you

- Proven experience in horizontal directional drilling (HDD) within telecommunications and/or civil construction, including on carrier / Tier 1 projects




- Hands-on experience operating Vermeer and/or Ditch Witch drilling rigs
- Demonstrated tracking experience and ability to maintain accurate bore alignment
- Experience undertaking service locating and interpreting underground asset information
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and Dial Before You Dig (DBYD) plans
- Strong leadership capability, with experience leading crews on site
- Reliable, proactive, and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Strong focus on safety, quality, and accountability
- HR or MR Truck Licence (HC highly regarded)
- White Card (Construction Induction)
- First Aid
