About Us At Melbourne Business School (MBS), our purpose is to unleash ideas and leaders for a sustainable future. We aspire to be among the top-ranked providers of business education in the Asia-Pacific, the first choice for students and clients seeking exceptional educational experiences, and globally recognised for influential academic and business research.
The Opportunity
Melbourne Business School is seeking an accomplished and future-focused Director of Marketing and Communications to shape how our story is told, how our audiences engage with us and how our reputation grows in Australia and internationally.
Reporting directly to the Dean and leading a talented team of marketing and communications professionals, you will set the strategic direction for the School's brand, marketing, communications, digital presence, media relations and reputation. You will bring together insight, creativity and commercial discipline to strengthen demand for our programs, deepen engagement with students and alumni, amplify the impact of our faculty and research, and build meaningful connections with donors, industry and organisational partners.
This is a rare opportunity to influence the next chapter of one of Australia's leading business schools. You will work at the centre of the organisation - partnering with the Dean, senior leaders, faculty and professional teams to turn MBS's strategy and distinctive value into a compelling, consistent and measurable market presence.
In this role, you will:
- Develop and execute an integrated marketing and communications strategy aligned with MBS's purpose, vision and strategic priorities.
- Steward and strengthen the MBS brand, ensuring a distinctive and consistent identity across every audience, channel and experience.
- Lead high-impact marketing,
media and public relations activity that elevates the School's national and international profile.
- Drive the continued digital transformation of marketing, using data, technology and insight to improve audience engagement, lead generation, conversion and return on investment.
- Partner with Academic and Executive Education leaders to articulate powerful value propositions across the School's program portfolio.
- Oversee compelling content that brings MBS's impact to life - from student and alumni stories to faculty research, thought leadership, video and social media.
- Build trusted relationships with journalists, media outlets, influencers and industry leaders, while providing confident counsel on reputation and crisis communications.
- Establish robust planning, reporting and performance disciplines, including oversight of the function's budget and visibility of pipeline health.
- Develop, coach and inspire a collaborative, high-performing team that lives the MBS Guiding Principles.
About You You are a strategic and influential marketing and communications leader who combines vision with a strong bias for action. You understand how to build an enduring brand while delivering the campaigns, content and digital experiences that create measurable growth. Equally comfortable advising senior leaders, working with creative and technical specialists, and navigating complex stakeholder environments, you build trust and bring people with you.
You will bring:
- Significant experience across marketing, communications or public relations, including demonstrated success in a senior leadership or management role.
- A record of leading high-impact, integrated campaigns; experience in education,
higher education or another complex, purpose-led environment will be highly regarded.
- Deep capability across brand, digital marketing, content strategy, media relations and reputation management.
- Strong knowledge of contemporary marketing technology, data analytics and performance optimisation, including CRM, CMS, email, social media, SEO and SEM environments.
- Executive-level communication, judgement and influencing skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders and translate complex ideas into clear, compelling narratives.
- Demonstrated success in building, coaching and leading engaged, high-performing teams.
- Exceptional commercial, analytical and project management capability, with the agility to balance strategic priorities and respond confidently in a fast-moving environment.
- A relevant qualification in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations or a related field, and/or extensive relevant professional experience.
Why Join MBS? At MBS, you will join an ambitious, values-based community with a genuine commitment to excellence, collaboration, integrity, diversity and experimentation. Your work will help connect people with transformative learning, share research that matters and strengthen the impact of leaders and organisations across Australia and beyond.
If you are inspired by the opportunity to lead a respected brand, shape an influential public voice and build the marketing and communications capability that will support MBS's future, we would welcome your application.
