This critical Executive role leads the strategic direction, planning, decision making and overall performance of the directorate which includes; Development, Planning, Building, Environmental Health, Compliance, Community Development and Library Services.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the incumbent will provide specialist advice, guidance and coordination to ensure Council maintains a capable, engaged and productive workforce aligned with organisational priorities and values, and legislative requirements.

Key responsibilities include

Directing, managing and mentoring a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring alignment with Council’s objectives

- Participating as part of Council’s Leadership Team to drive strategic decision making, planning and continual improvement which delivers programs that support organisational priorities
- Formulating, implementing and measuring strategic objectives and programs, contributing to Council’s Annual Business Plan and Budget, Long Term Financial Plan and Annual Report and other associated corporate documents
- Serving as the primary source of expert strategic planning, development, and policy advice to the CEO, Mayor,



and Elected Members to guide Council's long-term vision and decision-making
- Providing technical expertise and advice to Council, external organisations and the community on complex planning and development issues
- Acting as Council's key representative in unison with the CEO on strategic and development initiatives, growth management and infrastructure issues involving State Government departments which affect Council.
- Overseeing planning and development applications, ensuring compliance with Council’s strategic objectives, the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act, Regulations, Codes and other relevant legislation
- Leading the development, implementation and maintenance of relevant policies, procedures and systems to ensuring compliance with all relevant legislative, administrative and professional requirements
- Strengthening engagement frameworks with the community, peak bodies and organisations, ensuring effective multidirectional communication channels
- Leading community engagement initiatives by fostering solid relationships with the community, peak bodies, and stakeholder organisations.

Outstanding communication and negotiation skills, a professional and inspiring leadership style, highly developed strategic thinking and sound decision making, and the ability to influence and work effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and community members will be critical to success. Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or extensive commensurate experience in strategic and/or statutory planning and/or related field/s in a local government or similar highly compliance oriented setting would be ideal.
