About this Opportunity UQ Sport is recruiting for two newly created Duty Manager positions (one full-time 25 hours per week and one part time, 25 hours per week) to help lead the day-to-day operations of the UQ Centre, one of the largest indoor venues on The University of Queensland's St Lucia campus. From thrilling sporting competitions and community events to major University activities and examinations, the UQ Centre is at the centre of campus life
Working alongside the newly appointed Assistant Manager, you'll take the lead on shift, coordinating venue operations, supporting customer service staff, and ensuring events are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard. This is an ideal opportunity for someone with a passion for sport and events who enjoys bringing energy, positivity, and structure to a dynamic environment where multiple events can be turning over throughout the day.
You'll play a key role in opening and closing the venue, responding to operational challenges, and creating exceptional experiences for participants, spectators, and University stakeholders. With regular weekend work (one Saturday or Sunday each week) and a rotating roster that includes early starts and late finishes, this role offers variety and responsibility.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Lead and foster a positive, accountable, and high-performing team culture.
- Supervise daily venue operations, ensuring staff complete duties and delegated tasks effectively.
- Manage, develop, and support staff through rostering, recruitment, training, and performance development.
- Ensure the safety of patrons, oversee incident management processes, and coordinate relevant staff training.
- Manage the venue booking system, including cancellations, unpaid bookings,
and related administration.
- Oversee retail stock control, merchandising, and venue presentation standards.
- Conduct routine venue inspections and monitor daily operational checklists to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Deliver exceptional customer service and act as the escalation point for customer complaints and enquiries.
About You We are seeking someone who is excited by the opportunity to work alongside a newly appointed Assistant Manager to shape the future of the UQ Centre. You will be a collaborative leader who enjoys refining processes, building team capability, and driving operational excellence. Together, you will help create a polished, high-performing venue recognised for its smooth operations, exceptional customer service, and outstanding event delivery. You will also have:
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role
- Demonstrated commitment to customer service excellence
- Demonstrated personal initiative and ability to work autonomously
- High level of both written and verbal communication skills
- Proven high level planning and organisational skills
- You must have a Blue Card, First Aid and CPR
