About the role

We have an opportunity for an experienced Electronics Technician to join our Australian Maritime team in Canberra, supporting the reliable operation of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority’s national Aids to Navigation network (AtoN).

This is a varied technical role combining remote monitoring, incident response, complex fault diagnosis, equipment testing and repair, and technical support for contractors working at Aids to Navigation sites across Australia.

Most of the work is undertaken remotely from our Canberra facility, with occasional interstate or regional travel to support technical investigations, commissioning, equipment trials and other authorised operational or project activities.

Reporting to the Lead Technician, you will work closely with our Maritime Operations Centre, AMSA technical personnel, regional contractors, equipment manufacturers and Kordia’s engineering and project teams.

What you will do

- Respond to Aids to Navigation alarms, outages and fault reports
- Interrogate remote monitoring, communications and equipment-management systems to assess equipment status and service impact
- Diagnose faults affecting electronic equipment, communications links, telemetry, remote monitoring and associated power systems
- Undertake authorised remote troubleshooting, including polling, resets and configuration checks
- Identify likely causes, replacement-equipment requirements and recommended corrective actions
- Create and maintain accurate fault and failure records, including diagnostic findings, decisions, communications and restoration evidence
- Monitor incidents through referral, contractor attendance, rectification and closure
- Provide technical guidance and remote support to AMSA personnel, operators and regional contractors
- Complete remote pre-checks and support planned inspections, outages, equipment replacements and commissioning activities
- Review contractor test results, photographs,



drawings and service reports to determine appropriate next actions
- Inspect, configure, assemble, test and, where appropriate, repair returned or replacement AtoN and communications equipment
- Complete pre-dispatch technical and quality checks and assist with asset repair, survey, stock allocation and disposal recommendations
- Develop and maintain technical instructions, technical bulletins, job plans, diagrams and troubleshooting guidance
- Liaise with equipment manufacturers and suppliers regarding defects, repairs, training, firmware and technical solutions
- Contribute technical information to customer reporting, repeat-fault analysis and service-improvement activities
- Support other Australian Maritime projects and technical activities when AtoN priorities and capacity permit
- Share technical knowledge and provide guidance to students, trainees and less experienced team members where required

What you will bring

You will have practical electronics or communications experience, strong analytical skills and the technical judgement to diagnose complex problems and recommend reliable solutions.

Essential requirements include:

- A Certificate III or IV in Electronics and Communications, Diploma or Associate Degree in electronics or electrical engineering, completion of a relevant apprenticeship, or an equivalent recognised qualification
- Relevant experience as an electronics, communications, telemetry or technical-support technician, or demonstrated equivalent capability
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose electronic, communications, telemetry or remote-monitoring systems using test equipment and computer-based diagnostic tools
- Strong analytical troubleshooting, incident-management and problem-solving skills
- The ability to prioritise concurrent faults, work within service timeframes and escalate operational risks appropriately
- Clear written and verbal communication skills,



including the ability to prepare accurate technical records, instructions and customer communications
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn specialist monitoring, equipment and service-management systems
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively with operators, contractors, customers, engineers and suppliers
- A current unrestricted Australian driver’s licence
- The legal right to live and work in Australia
- The ability to meet applicable Kordia and AMSA security, confidentiality and system-access requirements
- The ability to participate in rostered or after-hours support arrangements when required
- The willingness and ability to undertake occasional interstate and regional travel, including overnight stays
- The ability to safely undertake the inherent requirements of workshop, bench-testing and occasional site-based work, with reasonable adjustments where applicable

Highly regarded experience

Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:

- Maritime Aids to Navigation or another safety-critical remote asset network
- Automatic Identification Systems, satellite or cellular communications, telemetry or remote monitoring
- Marine lanterns, RACONs, DC power systems, batteries or solar equipment
- ServiceNow or another incident and asset-management platform
- Working under customer contracts, service levels, KPIs or regulated operational requirements
- Preparing technical instructions or analysing recurring equipment faults
- Mentoring, training or supervising students, trainees or less experienced technicians
