Who we are
FULLSET builds recent hardware and games for classic consoles like Neo Geo, N64, Saturn & Dreamcast. Our cartridges bring modern features to original consoles (like Wi-Fi for online updates and network play) using ESP32 and FPGA-based designs, and they double as a platform for new releases. Alongside the hardware, we make and publish our own games physically and digitally across 14+ platforms. Our first two games are Project Neon and Overserved: Food Fighters!
You can learn more about what we do on https://fullset.io and https://x.com/fullset_collect The role
We're looking for a hands-on hardware engineer to join us in designing and iterating on cartridge PCBs, with the potential to work on a new game console. You'll work on boards end to end: schematic, layout, prototypes, bring-up, debugging on real hardware, and production runs.
What you'll do
- Design and revise cartridge PCBs: MCU, FPGA/CPLD, flash memory, mixed 5 V and 3.3 V logic
- Bring up prototypes and track down timing and signal issues on a scope or logic analyzer
- Develop firmware and gateware
- Prepare boards for manufacturing: BOMs, DFM, assembly files
- Help shape the hardware for a new, memory-mapped/cartridge-based gaming system
Things we'd love to see
- A portfolio of PCBs you've designed and had manufactured
- Schematic and layout experience in KiCad, Altium or Proteus
- Solid digital design fundamentals: setup and hold timing, latches, bus contention, level shifting
- Comfortable debugging with an oscilloscope or logic analyzer, and doing fine-pitch rework
- Experience integrating FPGAs (Verilog) or CPLDs on a board
- Arcade, retro console or game hardware experience
You don't need to tick every box. If a few of these sound like you, we'd love to hear from you. Pay: $40.00 – $100.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10.0 – 20.0 per week
Work Location: Hybrid remote in Avalon Beach NSW 2107
