Stone Age Group is a Melbourne-based tiling and waterproofing subcontractor delivering residential and commercial wet-area, balcony and internal/external tiling packages. We work with builders, developers and project managers across metropolitan Melbourne and greater Victoria. We are growing and need an estimator who can turn drawings into accurate, competitive quotes — and help us win the right work.

The role

You will own estimating from tender receipt through to quoted handover. This is a hands-on role in a subcontracting business — you will measure, price, query and follow up. Site visits and supplier conversations are part of the job.

Key responsibilities

- Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimates for wall and floor tiling, screeding, waterproofing membranes, trims, movement joints and related wet-area works
- Review architectural and structural drawings, specifications, scopes of work and tender documents; identify exclusions, risks and missing information
- Price labour, materials, preliminaries, access, waste and margins against current Melbourne rates and company cost data
- Specify and price waterproofing systems to AS 3740 (internal wet areas) and AS 4654 (external/balcony), including primers, bond breakers, reinforcing and certification allowances
- Liaise with tile suppliers, membrane manufacturers, screeders and specialist subcontractors for current pricing and lead times
- Issue RFIs, compile quotations and tender submissions, and follow up with builders and clients
- Support project handover with job sheets, material lists, scope summaries and assumptions for site teams
- Maintain estimating templates, rate libraries and supplier records in Excel and take-off software
- Attend selected site inspections and pre-tender meetings across Melbourne as required





About you
- Proven estimating or quantity take-off experience in construction — tiling, waterproofing, wet trades, flooring or finishing trades strongly preferred
- Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and specifications accurately
- Sound knowledge of tiling methods, tile types, adhesives, grouts, screeds and wet-area detailing
- Working knowledge of AS 3740 and AS 4654 and typical membrane systems used in Victoria
- Strong Excel skills; PlanSwift, Bluebeam, Cubit, Groundplan or similar take-off software highly regarded
- Attention to detail, commercial judgement and the discipline to hit tender deadlines
- Clear communication with builders, suppliers and site teams
- Unrestricted rights to work in Australia and a current Victorian driver’s licence
- Trade background (tiler or waterproofer) or a construction/estimating qualification is an advantage, not a requirement

Pay: $67,357.00 – $107,000.00 per year
