What We’re Looking For
We are seeking a calm, patient, reliable, and consistent Female Disability Support Worker to provide ongoing weekday support to a 61-year-old male participant in North Sydney, NSW.
The participant lives with an acquired brain injury (ABI) and OCD and benefits from structured, predictable, and consistent support. The successful worker will assist him to maintain his independence, remain engaged throughout the day, and work towards his goal of continuing to live at home as independently as possible.
This role is particularly suited to someone who enjoys meaningful conversation, companionship and relationship-based support. The participant has an interest in topics including current affairs, history and politics, so someone who enjoys thoughtful conversation and can build genuine rapport would be highly valued.
The successful applicant will be calm and emotionally regulated, particularly when the participant experiences anxiety, frustration or distress. An understanding of OCD, acquired brain injury, routines and the importance of predictability will be highly regarded.
Female Support Worker Preferred A female Support Worker is preferred for this role. The participant also prefers a non-smoking worker who does not have pets.
We are particularly interested in someone who is quiet, patient,
respectful and able to take initiative without requiring constant direction.
Schedule
Monday – Thursday
Start time: Flexible between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM Finish: Approximately 3:00 PM
Ongoing weekday support The successful applicant must be able to provide reliable and consistent availability Monday to Thursday.
Responsibilities
- Provide companionship, meaningful conversation and positive social engagement.
- Support the participant to maintain a structured and predictable daily routine.
- Encourage participation in meaningful activities and interests.
- Support community access, appointments and other activities where required.
- Assist the participant to maintain independence at home and in the community.
- Provide calm reassurance during periods of anxiety, frustration or emotional distress.
- Support transitions and changes to routine using a patient and reassuring approach.
- Encourage positive engagement and reduce periods of social isolation.
- Support the participant to develop and maintain daily living skills.
- Follow individual support strategies and guidance from the participant’s support team.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and respectful communication.
- Complete accurate progress notes following each support shift.
- Support the participant to work towards his goal of remaining at home as independently as possible.
Applicants Must Have
- NDIS Worker Screening Check.
- Working with Children Check, where applicable.
- First Aid & CPR Certificate.
- Relevant disability support experience.
- Experience supporting people with acquired brain injury, OCD or similar support needs is highly regarded.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patient, calm, reliable and emotionally regulated approach.
- Understanding of person-centred support and qualified boundaries.
- Ability to work independently and take appropriate initiative.
- Reliable and consistent availability Monday–Thursday.
- Non-smoking preferred.
- Ability to support community participation and appointments where required is advantageous.
