Food Services Assistant

Located in the heart of Creswick, our 65-bed facility includes our Peacock Wing, a specialised 18-bed Memory Care Unit, where we support residents living with dementia with dignity, respect, and understanding.
What we are looking for
We are seeking a reliable, caring and service-focused Food Services Assistant to join our dedicated food services team.
Working closely with our Chefs, and care team, you will play an important role in ensuring residents receive secure, timely and respectful meal and refreshment services in a clean, welcoming and person-centred workplace.

About the Role The Food Services Assistant is responsible for supporting the delivery of safe, timely and efficient meal and refreshment services to residents across all meal periods.
This hands-on role includes table service, tray delivery, morning and afternoon tea service, dishwashing, cleaning and maintaining food service areas, and following food safety and infection prevention and control requirements.
You will help create a positive dining experience for our residents by ensuring meals are delivered accurately and respectfully, while supporting their individual needs, dignity and comfort.
Key Responsibilities:
Meal & Refreshment Service
- Serve breakfast, lunch and dinner to residents in accordance with service schedules
- Deliver meal trays to residents' rooms as required, ensuring the correct meal is provided to the correct resident
- Provide morning and afternoon tea service, including preparation and distribution of refreshments
- Assist residents during meals within the scope of the role, maintaining dignity and respect
- Collect used trays, crockery and cutlery following meal service
Cleaning, Dishwashing & Food Service
- Operate commercial dishwashing equipment and complete dishwashing duties
- Clean and sanitise dining areas, kitchen surfaces and food service equipment
- Maintain food service trolleys, tea rooms and service areas to a high standard
- Remove rubbish and recycling in accordance with infection prevention and waste management requirements
Food Safety & Infection Prevention
- Follow food safety, hand hygiene, PPE and infection prevention and control requirements
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across food service areas
- Identify and promptly report hygiene, infection control or equipment concerns to the Chef Manager
Team & Operational Support
- Work collaboratively with Chefs, Cooks and other Food Services Assistants to ensure smooth meal service operations
- Assist with basic food service tasks as directed
- Provide limited meal preparation or service support in the absence of a Cook or Chef, strictly within training, competency and direction
- Participate in training, audits, inspections and continuous improvement activities as required
Resident Experience
- Interact professionally, respectfully and positively with residents, families and staff
- Respond appropriately to resident requests during meal and refreshment services
- Contribute to a welcoming, inclusive and person-centred dining environment
About You To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Food Handler Certificate
- Experience in food service, hospitality, cleaning or a similar environment
- Knowledge of safe food handling, hygiene and infection prevention practices
- Strong attention to detail, particularly when handling meals and dietary requirements
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- A respectful and caring approach when working with older people and vulnerable individuals
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Reliability, accountability and a positive approach to change
- Ability to work calmly and effectively in a busy environment
- Police Check
- Current NDIS Check (mandatory)
- Current First Aid and CPR certification (desirable)
- Current influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations (mandatory)
Experience in residential aged care, healthcare or a similar environment is highly desirable.
Certificate III in Hospitality or Individual Support, infection prevention/hygiene training, and manual handling training are also desirable.
