Planet Organic is an established and profitable Australian organic tea and wellness business based on the Sunshine Coast. We manufacture and distribute an extensive range of organic products across wholesale, retail and rapidly growing e-commerce channels. We are a privately owned business with an experienced team and are entering the next stage of our development.

About the role

Reporting directly to the owner, you will take responsibility for the financial and commercial management of Planet Organic and provide financial oversight of an associated aviation-parts business. You will be expected to understand the business well beyond the P&L.; The role combines traditional CFO responsibilities with significant commercial and management involvement.

You will identify what's happening in the business, understand why it's happening, anticipate what is likely to happen next and recommend what management should do about it.

Key responsibilities

- Full ownership of the finance function
- Budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow management
- Monthly management reporting and analysis
- P&L;, balance sheet and cash-flow oversight
- Development and monitoring of budgets and KPIs
- Working-capital and inventory management
- Purchasing and supplier financial oversight
- Product, customer and sales-channel profitability analysis
- Margin analysis and identification of opportunities to improve profitability
- Financial modelling and evaluation of major commercial decisions
- Banking relationships and finance facilities
- Cash management and treasury
- Development and maintenance of strong internal financial controls
- Oversight of accounting, taxation and statutory requirements
- Management of external accountants and specialist advisers where required
- Reviewing operating expenses and identifying meaningful cost-saving opportunities
- Working closely with production, operations, sales and e-commerce teams
- Providing commercial guidance and support to other managers
- Improving management information and accountability throughout the business
- Assisting with strategic planning and longer-term business decisions

Management & Leadership

We are specifically looking for someone with significant management experience, not simply technical accounting expertise. You will work across the organisation and will be expected to:

- Provide leadership to managers and staff where appropriate
- Help establish clear responsibilities and accountability
- Assist management with operational and commercial decisions
- Challenge assumptions and decisions constructively
- Identify issues before they become problems
- Help develop systems and processes that allow the business to operate efficiently without unnecessary owner involvement
- Act as a senior point of contact when the owner is unavailable




- Help build a disciplined, commercially focused management culture

The successful candidate will be comfortable making decisions and taking responsibility rather than waiting for direction.

AVSearch Responsibilities

The role will also include financial oversight of AVSearch, an established aviation-parts business owned by the same group. AVSearch is moving toward a simplified operating model focused primarily on monetising its substantial existing aviation-parts inventory.

Responsibilities will include

- Oversight of bookkeeping and financial reporting
- Cash-flow forecasting and management
- Inventory and working-capital reporting
- Monitoring inventory sales and cash conversion
- Sales commission and incentive reporting
- Expense and overhead control
- Profitability analysis
- Banking and financial administration
- Liaising with external accountants and tax advisers
- Providing consolidated financial reporting across the owner's businesses

AVSearch is not expected to require the same level of day-to-day involvement as Planet Organic but will form part of the CFO's overall responsibilities.

About you

- 10+ years of senior finance experience, including significant experience as a CFO, Finance Director, Financial Controller, Commercial Manager or equivalent senior leadership position
- CA or CPA qualifications
- Strong commercial and operational judgement
- Significant people-management experience
- Experience working as part of a senior management team
- Experience within privately owned or owner-led businesses
- Strong cash-flow and working-capital management experience
- Experience with inventory-intensive businesses
- Manufacturing, FMCG, wholesale, distribution or e-commerce experience
- Robust budgeting and forecasting capabilities
- Excellent financial modelling and analytical skills
- Experience developing meaningful management reporting and KPIs
- Strong understanding of systems, processes and internal controls
- The confidence to challenge the owner and other managers when appropriate
- The ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial managers
- A practical, hands-on approach to problem solving
- Strong experience with Xero and ERP/inventory systems
- Experience with Cin7 Core would be highly regarded but is not essential

The Person We're Looking For

We are not looking for someone whose primary focus is producing historical financial reports.



We want someone who thinks commercially and understands that the finance function should help management make better decisions.

You should be equally comfortable discussing:

cash flow, margins and budgets as you are discussing:

inventory, staffing, production, purchasing, sales performance and operational efficiency.

You will need to be prepared to get into the detail when necessary while maintaining a clear understanding of the bigger commercial picture.

You should also be comfortable working directly with an entrepreneurial owner and be prepared to provide an independent opinion rather than simply agreeing with management.

Experience across e-commerce, inventory management and integrated financial systems will be highly regarded.

Location & Remuneration

Location: Sunshine Coast, Queensland

Employment: Full Time

Remuneration: $150,000–$170,000 + Superannuation, depending on experience

This is primarily an in-house position. We are looking for someone who wants to become an integral part of the business and management team.
