Head of House - Stephens Full time | permanent | Position of Responsibility | Starting in 2027 (Year 7-12 Teaching load)

The Hutchins School is seeking an outstanding educator and pastoral leader to join our Senior School as Head of House – Stephens. The House system is central to pastoral life at Hutchins, providing students in Years 9–12 with a strong sense of belonging, connection, leadership and community.

As Head of House, you will lead the pastoral life of Stephens House, ensuring students feel safe, known, connected and valued, while maintaining high expectations for learning, behaviour and participation.

Key responsibilities

- Lead high-quality pastoral care, wellbeing and student support within the House.
- Lead and support House Mentors and the Assistant Head of House.
- Monitor student wellbeing, academic progress, attendance and engagement.
- Champion the School's Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) framework.
- Coordinate targeted interventions and work collaboratively with Student Support Services and Senior School leadership.
- Build a positive House culture focused on belonging,



participation, service and achievement.
- Lead House activities, assemblies, competitions, celebrations and student leadership.
- Develop robust relationships with students, staff and parents/carers.
- Maintain appropriate pastoral records and manage sensitive matters with sound judgement and confidentiality.

About you

You will be a relational and purposeful leader who combines warmth, high expectations and sound professional judgement.

You will have

- Current Tasmanian Teacher Registration and Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP).
- Strong knowledge of the developmental, social, emotional and educational needs of adolescent boys.
- Demonstrated experience building positive relationships with students, colleagues and families.
- The ability to lead and support colleagues in pastoral care, wellbeing and behaviour support.
- Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
- A commitment to student safety, inclusion, wellbeing and restorative practice.
- Alignment with the values, expectations and Christian ethos of The Hutchins School.

Experience in pastoral care, adolescent development, wellbeing, educational leadership, Positive Behaviour Support or student leadership will be highly regarded.

- Positive Behaviour and Relationships: How have you built a positive, inclusive culture that promotes student wellbeing, engagement and high expectations, including through Positive Behaviour Support or restorative practices?
