Company Description Fire and Rescue NSW is a leading urban fire and rescue service dedicated to enhancing community safety, quality of life, and confidence across New South Wales. The organization manages fire emergencies in major cities and towns and responds to rescues, hazardous materials incidents, and potential terrorism-related events statewide. Fire and Rescue NSW collaborates with other government agencies to reduce the impact of bushfires, storms, floods, landslides, building collapses, motor vehicle accidents, and other emergencies.

Role Description The Health and Safety Trainee is a full-time, on-site role based in Sydney, NSW, supporting workplace health and safety initiatives across Fire and Rescue NSW. Day-to-day tasks include assisting with safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments, and helping to identify and report potential hazards in operational and office environments. The trainee supports the development and updating of safety procedures, guidelines, and training materials, and helps maintain accurate health and safety records and incident reports.

The role involves collaborating with health and safety advisors, operational staff, and management to promote safe work practices and compliance with relevant legislation and organizational policies.



The trainee may also participate in safety briefings, training sessions, and awareness activities to strengthen the safety culture within the organization.

Qualifications

- Foundational knowledge or interest in occupational health and safety, risk management, and injury prevention.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with capacity to interpret basic safety data and identify trends.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports, documentation, and safety-related correspondence.
- Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams and build positive working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Good organisational and time management skills, with attention to detail in record-keeping and compliance tasks.
- Proficiency with standard office software (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, presentation tools) and willingness to learn safety-related systems.
- Commitment to learning, adaptability in a dynamic emergency services environment, and a robust focus on workplace safety.
- Understanding of or interest in emergency services operations and safety standards within public sector or high-risk environments is beneficial.
