The client is seeking an experienced IT Manager with a strong Java background to lead the development, maintenance and optimisation of key business applications. The role is responsible for managing a technical team, setting development standards and ensuring Java-based systems are secure, scalable and reliable. Success in this position will be measured by the stability of core applications, the effectiveness of the team, and the ability to deliver technology solutions that align with business goals.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead, mentor and manage a team of Java developers and IT professionals to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Oversee the design, development, integration and maintenance of Java-based applications and related systems.
- Define and implement development standards, coding best practices and quality assurance processes for Java projects.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather requirements, prioritise work and translate needs into technical solutions.
- Manage the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), including planning, estimation, delivery, release and support.
- Ensure the security, scalability, performance and availability of Java applications and supporting infrastructure.
- Coordinate with infrastructure, DevOps and security teams to optimise deployment, automation and environment management.
- Prepare and manage project budgets,



resource planning and vendor relationships related to Java application development and support.

Requirements:

- Proven experience as an IT Manager, Development Manager, or similar role overseeing Java-based applications.
- Strong hands-on background in Java development and enterprise frameworks such as Spring or Spring Boot.
- Demonstrated experience leading, coaching and developing technical teams in a commercial environment.
- Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and agile delivery methodologies.
- Experience working with relational databases and integrating Java applications with external systems and APIs.
- Good knowledge of application security, performance tuning and best practices for scalable Java solutions.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting deadlines and quality expectations.

Nice to Have:

- Experience deploying and managing Java applications on cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools, including CI/CD pipelines, containerisation and automation.
- Background working in large enterprise environments, such as financial services, telecommunications or similar sectors.
- Relevant qualified certifications in Java development, project management or cloud technologies.
