About the Position
The Motel Manager holds overall responsibility for the day to day operation, commercial performance and guest experience of Bundaberg City Motor Inn, leading the reception, housekeeping and grounds team while personally overseeing reservations, room allocation, breakfast service, supplier relationships and the property's budget and financial records. Because the motel is an owner operated property with a compact team, the role combines strategic accountability with direct, hands on involvement in every part of the operation, from greeting arriving guests and resolving complaints through to rostering staff, managing online travel agency channels, controlling costs and ensuring the property meets its health, safety and compliance obligations. The position is central to the business, as the standard of service, the accuracy of the booking and revenue systems and the presentation of the property all flow directly from the Motel Manager's leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day to day operation of the motel, ensuring the property, suites, pool and spa, barbecue area,
guest laundry and car parking are presented and maintained to Best Western brand standards at all times.
- Greet arriving guests, complete check in and check out, supervise reception and act as the principal point of contact for guests throughout their stay.
- Build strong relationships with guests and cultivate a positive reputation for the motel through consistently excellent service.
- Ensure an excellent guest experience by addressing issues, complaints and special requests promptly, professionally and to resolution.
- Take client bookings for rooms and for local tours and attractions, and manage reservations, room allocation and availability across all channels.
- Manage bookings, rates and records from Online Travel Agencies, ensuring inventory and pricing are accurate and consistent across every distribution channel.
- Operate and maintain the property management and booking system, including reservations, collections, invoicing and payment collection.
- Assign daily duties to motel personnel, including cleaners and other service staff, and manage and support them throughout their shifts.
- Prepare staff rosters and coordinate room service, hospitality and housekeeping activities to meet occupancy and arrival patterns.
- Observe and monitor staff performance, ensuring adherence to company rules, brand standards and workplace policies, and providing coaching where standards are not met.
- Manage breakfast service in accordance with guests' requests and timings, including preparation, delivery and food safety.
- Manage inventory levels of supplies, linen, amenities and other essentials, and coordinate with suppliers to secure timely deliveries and competitive terms.
- Oversee the motel's budget, manage operating expenses and maintain accurate financial records, including billing, payments, banking and financial reporting.
- Plan budgets, keep accounts and monitor revenue, occupancy and average room rate against targets.
- Ensure workplace health and safety requirements are met, including hazard identification, incident reporting, pool and spa safety and compliance with relevant legislation.
- Organise and coordinate events at the property where required.
- Market the establishment, including promotional activity, online listings and content, guest review management and relationships with local businesses and attractions.
Requirements
- Australian citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to apply.
- A Diploma or higher qualification in hospitality management, business, tourism or a closely related discipline.
- A minimum of one year's relevant experience in a motel, hotel or accommodation management or supervisory role.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a property management and booking system, including reservations, room allocation, invoicing and payment processing.
- Working knowledge of Online Travel Agency channels and channel management, including rate loading, inventory control and review management.
- Sound financial skills, including budget preparation, expense control, reconciliation, record keeping and reporting.
- Competence in rostering, allocating and supervising housekeeping and reception staff in a small team workplace.
- Working knowledge of workplace health and safety obligations and food safety requirements applicable to accommodation and breakfast service.
- Confident computer skills, including email, spreadsheets and online booking platforms.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a professional, welcoming manner with guests from a range of backgrounds.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to direct, motivate and hold accountable a small operational team.
- Sound problem solving and decision making skills, with the composure to resolve guest complaints and operational issues independently.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities across reception, housekeeping and administration.
- Flexibility and availability to work across a seven day roster, including weekends, public holidays and on call coverage as required.
