Due to continued growth, we are seeking a motivated HV Technician to join our dynamic team and support a variety of exciting projects across the region.
Role Overview:
This is a hands-on position focused on high voltage maintenance, testing and commissioning, working under the supervision and direction of an Electrical Engineer. The ideal candidate will possess a solid technical foundation, a safety-first mindset, and a willingness to contribute to both field and project-based tasks. This role will involve site-based travel.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake HV maintenance, testing and commissioning under the direction of the Electrical Engineer
- Test protection relays including Sepam, VAMP, Siemens, SEL, GE Multilin, ABB, Reyrolle and GEC electromechanical relays
- Test protection systems, generator protection, transformers and cables
- Apply differential and distance protection scheme understanding, including testing
- Operate HV test equipment and software, including Omicron and DIGSI
- Carry out HV testing of transformers, motors, circuit breakers and cables
- Perform substation maintenance
- Assist in preparing Technical Test Plans,
ITPs and punch lists, and prepare detailed technical reports on completion of works
- Contribute to estimating time, materials and costs for testing and commissioning scopes of work
- Inspect completed works and test results against design specifications and regulatory requirements, escalating any non-conformance to the Electrical Engineer
- Assist the Electrical Engineering team in evaluating new test methods, equipment and diagnostic techniques as they're introduced to site
- Comply with HSE policies and maintain high safety standards on all sites
Skills & Experience
- Experience with HV maintenance, testing and commissioning
- Sound knowledge of protection relays and power system protection principles
- Experience using HV test equipment and software (e.g. Omicron, DIGSI)
Requirements
- Relevant AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma (or equivalent), with a minimum of two years' relevant experience — or at least three years of highly relevant experience in lieu of formal qualifications
- Valid WA Driver's Licence (or ability to obtain)
- White Card and applicable site tickets (or willingness to obtain)
- Willingness to travel for site-based work as required
Desirable Skills
- Ability to complete arc flash modelling and assessment, update HV single line diagrams, and prepare HV submissions as an Electrical Protection Engineer
- Previous experience working with utilities or power system operators
Exposure to diverse and technically challenging projects across Australia.
