About the role

The Senior Industry Development & Extension Officer is responsible for delivering industry development and extension activities that connect grower and industry needs with research, data and practical on-farm decision making. The role builds trusted relationships with growers and industry stakeholders, identifies emerging production and industry issues, translates research and technical knowledge into practical extension, and facilitates activities that improve adoption, productivity, sustainability and industry resilience.

Key responsibilities

- Lead and facilitate practical extension activities including MacGroups, field days, workshops, study tours and other regional engagement.

- Maintain a strong working understanding of Australian macadamia RD&E;, including levy and non-levy investments and relevant international research.

- Engage with researchers, project reference groups and service providers to improve industry relevance and translate research outcomes into practical, decision-useful extension.

- Maintain awareness of production and agronomic issues, crop protection, biosecurity, regulatory and certification developments, seasonal conditions and other matters affecting growers.

- Contribute to orchard and production mapping, crop forecasting, benchmarking, regional analysis and other industry datasets and insights.

- Develop and review practical resources such as fact sheets, guides, research summaries, presentations, webinars, videos and other extension materials.

- Deliver agreed work plans, project outputs, milestones, reporting and stakeholder engagement activities to a high standard and within required timeframes.

- Support monitoring, evaluation and learning by collecting feedback and evidence of engagement, capability, adoption and impact, and use this information to improve delivery.

About you

- Strong knowledge and understanding of agriculture or horticulture; macadamia, perennial tree crop or comparable production experience is highly regarded.

- Sound technical and agronomic capability, with the ability to interpret research, data and production information and apply it to practical grower and business decisions.

- Demonstrated experience in agricultural extension, grower engagement, facilitation, industry development, advisory services or a closely related field.

- Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to build credibility and productive relationships with growers, researchers, advisers, government and industry stakeholders.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate technical information into clear, practical content for varied industry audiences.

- Demonstrated project and work-program management capability, with strong organisation, prioritisation, initiative and the ability to deliver independently in a geographically dispersed team.
