The Role

The Peer Support Worker offers face-to-face support to young people aged 12 to 25 years, who access the Early Psychosis service and are experiencing their first episode of psychosis or at a risk of developing. The activities within this role range from group activities, one-on-one, and youth participation activities.

The Peer Support Worker will receive training, ongoing support, and supervision from the Team Coordinator and Senior Clinicians with the Early Psychosis service.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position

· Provide young people with information about the Early Psychosis service and information about how they can use different parts of the service.

· Support service delivery in compliance with legislative requirements and the policies and procedures of Black Swan Health and the Early Psychosis service.

· Inform program staff of any issues that arise when working with young people.





· Follow guidelines of safety both personally and for young people using the service.

· Maintain appropriate case notes, data collection procedures and clinical records.

· Participate in training and supervision on hope and recovery with respect to mental illness.

· Ensure accurate data reporting requirements are maintained as directed by Program Manager/Team.

· Listen and provide support and information to young people experiencing first episode psychosis.

· Promote methods of self-care to young people from the perspective of a peer with lived experience of a mental illness.

· Assist in the planning, development and promotion of group program activities across the services.

· Support young people within the Early Psychosis service to think about how they might make requests from their treating team about their recovery or about types of services they would like to have available to them.

The successful candidate will have

· Lived experience as a young person with a first episode of psychosis or diagnosed mental health condition.

· Desire and commitment to the provision of emotional support to young people experiencing a first episode of psychosis, sharing, an attitude of hope and optimism about the potential for recovery for young people who have experienced a first episode of psychosis.

· Knowledge and experience of the mental health system.

· Ability to work closely with young people, clinical staff and relevant committees.

· An understanding of the diversity of the cultural and linguistic backgrounds of our community,



and the impact this has on young people’s experiences of mental illness

· Ability to complete documentation and data collection as required.

· Ability to demonstrate self-awareness and monitoring of personal wellness and recovery.

Requirements of Employment

· National Police Check

· Working with Children Check

· Current eligibility to work in Australia without restrictions

· Current Driver’s Licence and own vehicle for work purposes

· Working hours include weekday evenings and Saturdays (flexibility is required to meet client needs).
