Public Sector People are partnering with a large, values-led organisation to appoint a Manager, Property and Housing within its property and assets function.
Reporting to a senior property leader, this position will oversee housing and real estate operations across a diverse portfolio encompassing community housing, residential property and retirement living.
The organisation is reviewing how its wider property function operates, with work underway to strengthen its strategy and create clearer responsibilities across property operations, facilities and asset management. This creates a genuine opportunity for the incoming Manager to help shape the future direction of the function.
The chance
You will lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for property and tenancy management, retirement living coordination and independent living unit sales.
The role combines people leadership with hands-on operational oversight. You will bring greater consistency to the function, strengthen processes and reporting, and ensure the team delivers a reliable and responsive service.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading, coaching and supporting a multidisciplinary property team
- Overseeing community housing, residential tenancy, leasing and retirement living activities
- Establishing clear priorities, workflows and performance expectations
- Improving operational systems, procedures, templates and reporting
- Ensuring compliance with relevant housing, tenancy and retirement living requirements
- Monitoring operational risks, audits, registers and reporting obligations
- Working closely with asset management, projects, development, finance and legal teams
- Supporting internal stakeholders with leasing, occupancy, sales and property matters
- Providing timely advice and recommendations to senior leaders
- Contributing to the organisation’s wider property strategy
This is an operational leadership position rather than a capital works role. It will suit someone who enjoys leading people, creating structure and working across several connected areas of housing and property.
About you
You will bring strong experience from property management, community housing, retirement living or another relevant operational property environment.
You do not need to have worked across every part of the portfolio. However, you will need the leadership capability, judgement and adaptability to manage a broad remit within a regulated and service-focused organisation.
You will ideally offer:
- Experience leading and developing a property or housing team
- Strong knowledge of residential property or tenancy management
- Exposure to community housing, social housing or retirement living
- An understanding of property maintenance and contractor management
- Experience improving operational systems, processes and reporting
- Sound knowledge of compliance within a regulated environment
- Confidence managing complex stakeholders and competing priorities
- A calm, practical and accountable leadership style
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in property, real estate or a related discipline
Experience with NCAT, housing management systems and retirement living legislation would be advantageous.
