The Position
Murray Art Museum Albury (MAMA) is seeking an exceptional curatorial leader for the role of Head, Curatorial and Collections.
The Head, Curatorial and Collections leads development and delivery of a varied and cutting-edge artistic program, drives strategic development and care of the Museum’s collection, and contributes to the operations and growth of MAMA as a member of the Senior Management team.
Opened in 2015, MAMA is a regionally transformative, globally engaged art museum located on Wiradjuri Country. In addition to the river cities of Albury and Wodonga, MAMA is connected to communities across the southern plains of New South Wales, through North East Victoria, into the Alpine region. MAMA enriches the cultural life of this region through development and presentation of an extensive exhibition program; care and presentation of the MAMA Collection; and a wide-ranging suite of education, public and creative learning programs. The impact of its work has placed MAMA at the cultural heart of the region and earned a national reputation.
Tasks and responsibilities
- Leading the Curatorial team, develop and deliver all aspects of a program of varied and innovative exhibitions and artistic projects both onsite and offsite, aiding the development of the museum’s programming goals.
- Oversee all aspects of the MAMA exhibitions and related program areas.
- In collaboration with the MAMA CEO and leading the Curatorial team, lead the strategic development of the MAMA collection, including all considerations of collection care to museum best practice standards.
- Contribute to a renewed strategic direction for MAMA that aligns with Council's broader objectives and long-term sustainability goals.
- Proactive identification of funding opportunities, partnerships, revenue initiatives, and innovative approaches to program delivery.
- Leading and supporting change initiatives that strengthen MAMA's relevance, impact, and resilience into the future.
Qualifications and experience
- Tertiary qualifications in art history, theory, practice, curatorial studies, or related discipline
- Exceptional knowledge of contemporary artistic practices and debates
- Project management
- Procurement
- Broad range stakeholder engagement, including working with artists, their representatives and supporters as well as donors, benefactors, and community groups
Hours
Based on 35 hours per week, working 35 hours across a 7-day spread,
with actual days and times being worked in accordance with facility roster, with a RDO in accordance with AlburyCity's RDO guidelines. Hours worked on weekends will attract the appropriate loadings.
