What you’ll do:

Based in Brisbane, you will provide operational oversight of geological operations across coal seam gas (CSG), the Cooper Basin, Northern Territory, Papua New Guinea, and offshore Western Australia. You will support wellsite geological operations from the Integrated Remote Operations Centre (IROC), with the flexibility to provide support across operational hours as part of a shared on-call roster.

Key accountabilities include:

- Provide direct operational support for drilling activities across Santos’ onshore and offshore assets, with primary accountability during the well execution phase of each project
- Conduct geosteering/ well placement monitoring and geological interpretation using standalone geosteering software
- Support Santos’ drilling operations as a duty Operations Geologist and provide effective real-time operational decision-making from the IROC
- Supervise all aspects of wellsite data acquisition (mud logging, wellsite geologists, LWD, wireline logging, remote operations etc.), ensuring high-quality, complete datasets are delivered safely and efficiently
- Manage contractors and personnel, including (but not limited to) wellsite services, sample analysis and wellsite geology contracts




- Deliver clear and effective operational reporting to internal stakeholders, Joint Venture partners, and regulatory authorities
- Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements throughout drilling and data acquisition operations.

What you'll bring:

You will hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geology, Geophysics, or Petroleum Engineering with previous industry experience. Previous Operations experience is preferred.

You will bring:

- A strong safety culture by identifying and managing risks, raising safety concerns, encouraging reporting, learning and safe work practices
- Comprehensive knowledge of drill rig components and operations including circulating systems, rotary systems, drilling fluids, casing, and cementing processes
- Experienced in geosteering operations and techniques, development of guidelines/ procedures and the operation of deep azimuthal imaging LWD tools
- Solid technical understanding of mudlogging unit functions, processes and procedures
- Ability to interpret and monitor key indicators related to Pore Pressure and Fracture Gradient
- Strong technical understanding of open/ cased hole logging and well testing requirements and procedures
- Working knowledge of cutting-edge and emerging technologies in drilling, formation evaluation, and real-time data capture
- Experience in contractor management, including wellsite services, wellsite geology and sample analysis
- Experience in conducting and managing wellsite data acquisition operations, scripting (Python or other), geomodelling software, and strong communication skills would be highly regarded.
