Founded in 1919, Leonard Joel is one of Australia’s leading auction houses, presenting curated auctions across Fine Art, Decorative Arts, Fine Jewels & Timepieces, Asian Art, Modern Design, Prints & Photography, Luxury and our long-running Salon Auction.

We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Head of Fine Jewels & Timepieces to lead our Melbourne department.

Reporting to the Managing Director, this is a senior role with a strong focus on business development, client relationships, sourcing exceptional property and driving sales. The successful candidate will combine jewellery expertise with strong commercial instincts, an ability to develop lasting client relationships and the leadership skills to manage and develop a high-performing team.

The Role

As Head of Fine Jewels & Timepieces, you will be responsible for the performance and continued growth of the department, including:

- Driving business development and sourcing jewellery and timepieces for auction and private sale

- Building, developing and maintaining relationships with new and existing clients

- Achieving departmental financial and sales targets

- Providing expert advice to clients and delivering an exceptional level of service

- Leading and developing the Fine Jewels & Timepieces team

- Overseeing the management and care of client property entrusted to Leonard Joel

- Working collaboratively across the business to identify opportunities and deliver successful auctions

- Developing relationships with key industry stakeholders and representing Leonard Joel within the jewellery and luxury sectors

- Contributing to the continued development and profile of the Leonard Joel Fine Jewels & Timepieces brand





- Identifying opportunities to improve departmental processes, stock management and client experience

About You

You will be an experienced jewellery professional who is equally comfortable developing new business, working closely with clients and leading a team.

You will bring:

- Robust knowledge and experience in fine jewellery, gemstones and the secondary jewellery market

- Demonstrated ability to build relationships, source stock and generate new business

- Strong commercial judgement and a results-focused approach

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

- A high level of initiative, accountability and attention to detail

- The ability to lead, motivate and work collaboratively with a team

- A genuine commitment to exceptional client service

- Qualifications in Gemmology (GAA) and/or Diamond Technology would be highly regarded but are not essential

- Previous auction industry experience would be advantageous but is not essential

The Opportunity

This is an prospect to take a leading role within an established Australian auction house and contribute directly to the continued growth of one of Leonard Joel’s key specialist departments.

The role offers significant scope to develop business, build relationships across the jewellery and luxury sectors and shape the continued growth of Fine Jewels & Timepieces at Leonard Joel.
