About the role
Benmax is seeking an experienced Finance Manager to lead the finance function of our Service business across the ACT and the Newcastle/Hunter Region.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will take ownership of day-to-day finance operations and the month-end close, lead the team responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll, and act as the principal financial adviser to the leadership team.
The role will suit a commercially minded finance professional who works closely with operations, communicates financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders, and wants to contribute to decision-making at a senior level.
This role can be based in either Canberra, ACT or Newcastle, NSW.
What you will be doing
- Leading day-to-day finance operations across accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, banking and cash management
- Managing, coaching and developing the AP, AR and payroll team
- Owning the month-end close, from journals and reconciliations through to WIP, revenue recognition and the monthly reporting pack
- Presenting monthly results, variance analysis and commentary to the leadership team
- Leading the annual budget, periodic forecasts and cash flow forecasting
- Managing debtor collections and creditor payments to protect working capital and supplier relationships
- Ensuring compliance across BAS, PAYG withholding, superannuation, payroll tax, FBT and workers compensation
- Running the year-end and external audit process with auditors, tax advisers, banks and insurers
- Maintaining internal controls, delegations of authority and finance policies, and improving how our finance processes and systems run
- Overseeing job costing,
contract billing and margin reporting and supporting Group finance with intercompany, consolidation and reporting
What you will bring
Essential
- Bachelor degree in Accounting, Commerce, Finance or a related discipline
- CA ANZ or CPA Australia qualification, with current membership
- Seven years' accounting experience, including three years as a Finance Manager or in an equivalent senior role
- Experience leading an AP, AR and payroll team, and owning month-end close and management reporting in a mid-sized business
- Strong technical accounting knowledge, including Australian Accounting Standards and revenue recognition for service and contract work
- Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills, with experience in Xero, Procore and Employment Hero or similar systems, and a working knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and awards
- A clear communicator who can explain financial results to non-finance managers, with sound commercial judgement, robust attention to detail and a track record of meeting deadlines

- Experience in a services, contracting, construction or building services business
