This one is confidential. Our client is an established and growing Melbourne accounting firm, one of those practices that's been quietly building a loyal client base for years rather than chasing headlines. They don't advertise often, and when they do, it's because the search actually matters.

In support of this growth, they're looking for a Senior Tax Accountant to take genuine ownership of a portfolio of SME and private group clients: income tax returns for companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals, BAS and IAS preparation, FBT, Div 7A and CGT work handled properly rather than rushed through for turnaround's sake.

You will provide a senior technical presence in the Melbourne office; trusted to keep client work and judgement calls moving. You deal directly with the ATO on your clients' behalf, assessments, rulings, audits, penalty and interest remission, and you'll do it with the standing to make the call yourself rather than waiting on sign-off. Alongside the compliance work, you'll mentor the accountants coming up behind you, which the firm treats as a genuine part of the role rather than an afterthought. That's not a title on paper, it's a regular part of the job.

There's no sales target attached to any of it.



The client base is already there, some of the relationships over a decade old, and the practice isn't interested in growing your book, it's interested in you doing excellent technical work for the clients already loyal to it. Several of the firm's own people have stayed a decade or more, which tends to say more about a workplace than anything in a job ad can.

What we're looking for:
CA or CPA qualified, operating at a genuinely senior level, not just holding the title
Solid technical grounding in Australian tax law: GST, CGT, FBT and Div 7A specifically, not just general compliance
Comfortable owning a portfolio and managing competing deadlines without someone checking your work
A real track record of developing more junior accountants, not just delegating to them
The confidence to deal directly with clients and senior leadership alike
