Position Purpose

The Competitions Coordinator is responsible for the planning, organisation, and delivery of high-quality hockey competitions in Queensland. This role focuses on coordinating the State Championships (indoor and outdoor), supporting Hockey One match day operations, and assisting associations with their competition needs.

Through exceptional organisational skills and a participant-first mindset, the Competitions Coordinator ensures events are well-planned, compliant, and enjoyable for all stakeholders. They also provide support to operational committees and work closely with associations to develop and maintain best practices for running competitions.

Position Responsibilities

Competition and Event Coordination

Plan, organise, and deliver State Championships (indoor and outdoor), ensuring high-quality operational execution

Communicate key competition information to associations, teams, officials, and volunteers in a timely manner

Maintain and annually review competition manuals, regulations and operational procedures to ensure consistency across events

Liaise with host associations and provide on-ground support to ensure successful championship delivery

Manage event databases and implement paperless entry procedures to streamline processes

Coordinate participation and appointment of State Championship officials, including compliance with minimum standards

Ensure trophies, awards, and other event materials are prepared and presented at State Championships

Ensure participants are financial to compete in competitions

Lead development and implementation of draw frameworks for all State Championships

Hockey One and Event Support

Support the General Manager and team with Hockey One match day operations, contributing to the overall fan and participant experience

Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications Manager to promote State Championships and showcase achievements of players, officials, and volunteers

Stakeholder and Committee Support

Coordinate and assist operational committees,



including Masters, Indoor and Officiating, ensuring effective communication and collaboration

Liaise with Hockey Australia events team and Officiating Advisory Group for umpire fitness testing and National recommendation lists

Respond to association enquiries about competitions and provide resources, training, or solutions when needed

Assist and train association volunteers in the use of competition software and competition procedures

Budget Management

Manage the budget for all competitions, ensuring events operate within specified financial parameters

Track and manage volunteer expense reimbursements

Evaluation and Reporting

Conduct event and officials post-event evaluations to identify areas of improvement and celebrate key successes

Support the General Manager - Hockey Operations with competition and event reviews

Other Administration Tasks

Support the General Manager – Hockey Operations with integrity issues that may arise from State Championships and HQ events

Ensure compliance with Hockey Qld policies, including child safe standards, at all competitions and events

Manage the office in the following areas: stationary, couriers/mail, official's uniforms

Manage the Hockey Queensland Unfinancial List and ensure member registration payments are received and recorded appropriately through the RevolutioniseSport database

Contribute to the office administration duties

Contribute to the overall success and delivery of other Hockey Queensland activities and projects as directed

Maintain the Hockey Queensland website, Officiating Facebook page and WhatsApp group for all event and competition related activities





Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Essential Criteria

Practical experience in hockey, preferably with event or competition coordination

Strong organisational and project management skills

Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, both verbal and written

Proficiency in IT tools including competition databases, Microsoft Office, and event management systems

High attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines

Knowledge of best practices in running sports competitions and events

Current Blue Card or ability to obtain one

Desirable Criteria

An understanding of the structure of hockey in Queensland, including associations and competitions.

Experience in working with technical officials, umpires and event volunteers.

Experience running events compliant with National or state sport policies.

Child Safety Obligations

Ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and young people through compliance with the National Integrity Framework Child Safeguarding Policies.

Maintain valid Blue Card, police records, and reference checks.

Take immediate action and report any suspected abuse or misconduct. Hockey Queensland has zero tolerance for any abusive behaviour.

Other Requirements

Flexibility to travel across Queensland and work outside standard business hours for events as needed.

Current driver's licence.
