Kick-start a career on the water No two shifts look the same when your office is a moving vessel.
We're looking for a Deckhand to join our Marine Operations team for the summer season — playing a hands-on role in the protected running of our ferry services and helping keep passengers, vehicles and crew moving safely, day in and day out.
About the Role As a Deckhand, you're a key part of the onboard marine team, working under the Master and reporting through to our Marine Manager.
Your main job is the safe berthing and unberthing of the vessel — handling ropes, wires and rigging — along with helping passengers and vehicles board and disembark safely.
Beyond that, you'll keep the vessel ship-shape: cleaning, minor repairs, routine maintenance and regular inspections, plus playing your part in safety drills, passenger counts and emergency response when it counts.
What You'll Be Doing Perform a key role in berthing and unberthing the vessel in line with company procedures Handle ropes, wires and rigging for berthing operations Assist passengers and vehicles boarding and disembarking,

ensuring safe boarding mechanisms are in place Carry out cleaning and housekeeping to keep the vessel presentable and ready to sail Assist the Engineer with routine maintenance and minor repairs Keep watch during poor weather and maintain accurate passenger counts Participate in safety drills and stay familiar with emergency equipment Conduct regular inspections and checks in line with company procedures About You You're reliable, safety-conscious and happy to get hands-on — whether that's handling lines on the deck or picking up a mop below.
You communicate clearly with your crewmates, take instruction well, and stay calm and switched-on if conditions change or an incident calls for a quick response.
Elements of Shipboard Safety and a Senior First Aid certificate are essential; a Certificate I in Maritime Operations (General Purpose Hand) are looked on favourably — we'll support the right person to get there.
How to Apply Click APPLY and fill in as much information as you can in the track record section of the application, paying close attention to each question.
We are requesting your resume and a cover letter explaining why you are the best person for this position.
Applications close by 5pm on Sunday 27th September **** About Us SeaLink Tasmania is part of SeaLink Marine
