We are currently recruiting an experienced Senior Project Engineer – Electrical to join the site-based Project Delivery team supporting Rio Tinto Weipa Bauxite Operations at Amrun.
n
This is a 12-month opportunity suited to an experienced Electrical Project Engineer with a strong background in site-based project delivery, construction and commissioning, ideally within mining, resources or heavy industry.
n
Due to the FIFO arrangements for this position, candidates based in Brisbane or Cairns are preferred.
n
Working across a varied portfolio of multidisciplinary projects, you'll take ownership of electrical scopes from planning and procurement through construction, commissioning and project close-out.

The Role As the Senior Project Engineer – Electrical,



you'll join the site-based Project Delivery team and lead the execution of electrical scopes across a range of projects supporting the Weipa Bauxite Operations.
n
You'll work closely with contractors, Construction Leads, engineering teams and key stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with technical, quality, schedule and cost requirements.
n
Your responsibilities will span the full project lifecycle, including contractor management, technical queries, procurement, estimating, scheduling, cost control, forecasting, quality assurance, construction and commissioning.
n
Current Project Scope
n You'll support a varied portfolio of projects, including:
n
n
Lighting and power supply for culverts on the Amrun Haul Road
n
Radio tower installation
n
Accommodation module installations
n
Minor infrastructure installations
n
Tailings Dam decant pump decommissioning and commissioning
n
n
This position will suit an engineer who is comfortable managing multiple electrical work fronts within an operational site environment.
n
Key Responsibilities
n Your responsibilities will include:
n
n
Leading contractors and Construction Leads across electrical scopes of work
n
Coordinating and overseeing electrical construction activities
n
Managing QA for onsite electrical works, including construction verification inspections
n
Reviewing technical designs, drawings, specifications and project documentation
n
Managing and responding to technical queries
n
Coordinating activities and interfaces across multiple engineering disciplines
n
Coordinating procurement of materials, equipment and project resources
n
Supporting estimating and project planning activities
n
Identifying and managing project risks throughout construction and commissioning
n
Developing and managing project schedules
n
Leading project cost tracking and forecasting
n
Supporting financial reporting and cost control
n
Monitoring production performance and project KPIs
n
Coordinating testing and commissioning activities
n
Managing project close-out and as-constructed documentation
n
Ensuring contractors and project activities comply with site requirements
n
Maintaining a strong focus on health, safety and quality throughout project delivery
n
n
What We're Looking For
n To be successful, you'll bring:
n
n
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
n




Approximately 5–8 years' relevant site-based project execution experience
n
Strong electrical construction, testing and commissioning experience
n
Demonstrated experience delivering projects within operational site environments
n
Strong knowledge of LV electrical distribution systems
n
HV electrical distribution experience highly regarded
n
Experience delivering electrical scopes within multidisciplinary projects
n
Ability to interpret drawings, scopes of work, technical specifications and applicable standards
n
Strong contract and contractor management experience
n
Previous experience in a similar client-side Project Engineering role
n
Experience with procurement, scheduling, cost tracking and forecasting
n
Strong quality assurance and construction verification capabilities
n
High level of computer literacy, including Microsoft Excel and Word
n
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
n
Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management capabilities
n
Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
n
Flexibility around FIFO travel days and project requirements
n
Strong commitment to workplace health and safety
n
n
Previous experience within mining, resources, heavy industry or major operational facilities will be highly regarded.
n
Due to the FIFO arrangements, applicants currently based in Brisbane or Cairns are preferred for this opportunity.

n You're an experienced Electrical Project Engineer who understands what it takes to deliver projects successfully in a live, site-based environment.
n
You're equally comfortable reviewing technical documentation, walking down construction works, managing contractors, resolving technical issues and keeping a close eye on schedule, cost and project risk.
n
Most importantly, you can take ownership of your electrical scopes and drive them safely through construction, testing, commissioning and close-out while effectively managing multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
