About the role
Join Barwon Health's Main Theatre team as a Registered Nurse (Grade 2), working across Scrub and Scout nursing in a dynamic perioperative environment.
You'll provide high-quality, patient-centred care while working collaboratively with surgeons, anaesthetists and the broader multidisciplinary team.
This is an prospect to further develop your perioperative nursing skills, contribute to a positive team culture and support safe, evidence-based care throughout the surgical journey.
Key responsibilities
Provide safe, high-quality, patient-centred nursing care in the Scrub/Scout role.
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care in collaboration with patients and the multidisciplinary team.
Work effectively within the perioperative team to support safe and efficient surgical procedures.
Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation in accordance with organisational and regulatory requirements.
Contribute to quality improvement, audits, safety initiatives and service development within the theatre environment.
Support a positive learning culture by sharing knowledge and skills with colleagues and students.
What we're looking for
Registered Nurse with minimum of 12 months acute nursing experience at the commencement of program
Motivated and committed to building knowledge and clinical confidence
Effective communication, willingness to embrace feedback and work collaboratively to deliver safe, high-quality patient care
Commitment to continuous professional development and evidence-based practice
What the Program Offers
Gain a structured introduction to various roles within the operating room, including assessment components throughout the program.
Undertake planned specialty rotations throughout the theatre suite
Education and clinical support provided by the dedicated Perioperative education team throughout the program
Participate in several targeted study and education days
Build specialist perioperative nursing knowledge and skills
Successful completion of this program provides an opportunity to apply for 1 credit point at Deakin University towards a Post Graduate Certificate in Perioperative Nursing'
About the service
Operating Services at University Geelong Main theatre offers a round-the-clock service with ten operating theatres.
Beyond elective surgeries, the department handles semi-urgent and emergency procedures.
Specialities encompass Cardiothoracic, ENT, Gastroenterology, General Surgery, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Oral Faciomaxillary, Plastics, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Urology, Vascular and Robotic Surgery.
Approximately ****** operative procedures are performed annually.
The Division of Surgery is headed by a Professor of Surgery,
and the Department of Anaesthetics is headed by an Associate Professor of Perioperative Medicine and Pain Management.
