We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager, Insurance Risk to join our Risk & Compliance team.This is a specialist second-line risk role responsible for providing independent oversight, challenge and analysis of insurance risk across Avant's Medical Indemnity business.Reporting to the Head of Group Risk & Compliance, you will work closely with actuarial, underwriting, product and pricing, and claims teams, providing credible risk oversight while helping shape and strengthen the insurance risk framework across the Group.This role offers a unique opportunity to combine deep insurance expertise with strategic risk oversight in a purpose-led organisation that genuinely contributes to Australia's healthcare system.What You'll Be DoingProviding independent second-line oversight across underwriting, pricing, reserving, claims and reinsurance riskBuilding strong business partnering relationships while maintaining clear Line 2 independenceReviewing and challenging actuarial assessments, reserve adequacy and insurance risk assumptionsMonitoring claims trends, healthcare inflation, demographic shifts and other emerging risk driversMaintaining and enhancing the Insurance Risk Framework, risk appetite measures and associated policiesSupporting compliance with APRA prudential standards and regulatory requirementsTranslating complex insurance risk concepts into practical management and Board insightsDeveloping high-quality risk reporting, dashboards, risk indicators and management informationProviding risk input into strategic initiatives,



product changes and business planning activitiesPromoting a strong risk culture across the organisationAbout YouYou are a technically strong insurance professional who enjoys providing independent challenge, influencing through expertise and partnering with senior stakeholders.You will bring:8+ years' experience in insurance risk or a related insurance technical disciplineStrong experience within general insurance, medical indemnity or other APRA-regulated insurance environmentsSound understanding of underwriting, pricing, reserving and claims riskExperience reviewing actuarial analysis and interpreting insurance performance indicatorsStrong commercial judgement and analytical capabilityExcellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex information simplyA cooperative approach with the confidence to provide constructive challengeRelevant qualifications in Actuarial Studies, Finance, Commerce, Statistics or a related disciplineDesirable qualifications include RMIA, FIAA, ANZIIF, CA or similar professional credentials.About AvantAvant is Australia's largest medical defence organisation.
