Your Current WorkplaceCrown Law is the in-house law firm for the Queensland Government, providing trusted legal advice and representation across a broad range of complex and significant matters.Working at Crown Law offers the opportunity to contribute to legal outcomes that impact Queensland communities while collaborating with highly regarded legal professionals in an environment that values expertise, integrity and service.Your New TeamThe Community Safety - Mental Health Law Team is a specialist practice within Crown Law's Public Law and Prosecutions Branch.Acting on behalf of the Attorney-General, the team provides legal advice and representation in matters arising under the Mental Health Act and related legislation.The practice regularly appears before the Mental Health Court and Mental Health Review Tribunal, advising on complex, sensitive and often precedent-setting.Your New RoleThis newly created Assistant Crown Solicitor position reflects Crown Law's ongoing investment in leadership capability and legal service delivery.Reporting to the Deputy Crown Solicitor, you will lead a specialist team of lawyers while overseeing the delivery of complex legal services, developing team capability and maintaining strong relationships with government stakeholders.Combining leadership, advocacy and strategic legal expertise, you will play a key role in shaping the future direction of the practice while contributing to the broader leadership of Crown Law.Key Responsibilities IncludeLeading,



mentoring and developing a team of lawyersActing as a senior subject matter expert in mental health law and related areasProviding strategic and authoritative advice on complex and sensitive mattersAppearing before the Mental Health Court and Mental Health Review TribunalShaping litigation and advocacy strategies across significant mattersBuilding and maintaining trusted relationships with government clients and stakeholdersDriving excellence in legal service delivery, governance and risk managementSupporting capability development and continuous improvement initiatives across the practiceCulture & BenefitsCrown Law offers an inclusive, balanced workplace with achievable billable targets and genuine flexibility, giving senior lawyers space to lead without private practice pressure.
Eligible for a further 15% ARI that recognises senior expertise, other benefits include competitive superannuation, parental leave and wellbeing initiatives.Your Skills ProfileYou will be an experienced lawyer with strong advocacy skills, sound judgement and the ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.While experience in mental health law will be highly regarded, we are also interested in speaking with lawyers from related practice areas who can demonstrate transferable expertise and a strong advocacy background.You Will BringApproximately 10+ years' post-admission experience in mental health law or a related practice areaStrong advocacy experience, including appearing before courts, tribunals or other decision-making bodiesExperience advising on complex statutory and regulatory frameworksDemonstrated experience leading, mentoring or developing legal practitionersExcellent stakeholder management and relationship-building skillsThe ability to provide strategic advice on complex, sensitive or high-profile mattersStrong communication, decision-making and problem-solving capabilityA collaborative and authentic leadership styleThis opportunity will appeal to a senior practitioner seeking a leadership role that combines advocacy, strategic legal work and meaningful public sector impact.Please note applications close 5pm Tuesday 22nd of September ****.Applications to remain current for 12 months.Occupational group Executive
