The Nurse Practitioner Emergency Services is a Registered Nurse authorised to function autonomously and collaboratively in an advanced and extended clinical role within Emergency Departments of the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District.

The Nurse Practitioner role includes focused assessment and management of patients using advanced knowledge and skills which may include but not limited to, ordering diagnostics investigations, prescribing medications and direct referral of patients to other health professionals.

The Nurse Practitioner role is grounded in the nursing professions values, knowledge, theories and practice and provides innovative and flexible health care that complements other health providers. The scope of practice of the Nurse Practitioner is determined by the context within which the Nurse Practitioner is authorised to practice.

The Nurse Practitioner provides leadership that facilitated the ongoing development of clinical practice utilizing research in provision and development of education programs, clinical services planning and development of clinical practice standards.

The Nurse Practitioner is regarded as the senior Nursing Clinician and Resource person for the Emergency Department and works closely with the Nurse Manager, Nurse Unit Managers, Nurse Educator and Director of the Emergency Department in relation to provision of a high standard of care for patients.

The Nurse Practitioner manages and cares for patients,



utilising a model of care that is appropriate, timely and of high quality which is governed by the guidelines developed.

is a busy acute care facility which provides emergency services, elective surgical services, general medicine, antenatal and primary family health care, satellite renal dialysis, and adolescent and adult mental health services on site. It's an accredited healthcare facility with the Australian Council on Health Care Standards (ACHS) and is recognised as providing a high standard of care to the community.

please note you must have the following essential requirements:

- Currently a Registered Nurse with AHPRA the National Registration Board and Authorised as a Nurse Practitioner by the National Registration Board AHPRA.

- Tertiary Qualifications at a Master's Degree Level or working towards same.

- Post graduate qualifications in Emergency nursing and or extensive work experience in Emergency Department/s.

- Applicable vaccination requirements for a role.

- Working With Children Check (WWCC).

This is a temporary leave relief position until 7 February 2027 with the possibility of extension. Job-Share will be considered for this role.
