GRM DRILLING
Wangara
GRM Drilling is a specialist Exploration, Geotechnical, Environmental and Hydrogeological drilling contractor operating across Western Australia. We're an owner-operated, growing business investing in new rigs, equipment and people — and we're looking for motivated Driller Assistants / Offsiders to join our crews.
About the Role
You'll work alongside experienced Drillers on a 2 weeks on / 1 week off FIFO/DIDO roster, covering day and night shifts across projects state-wide, with occasional workshop and yard duties in Wangara between projects. You'll gain hands-on exposure to a range of drilling methodologies including Sonic, Rotary Air Blast & Diamond Drilling.
Project locations, crews and drilling methods change regularly, so you'll build a broad base of real-world skills — not just drilling technique, but equipment maintenance, mechanical problem-solving, site safety and general practical know-how that carries well beyond the drilling industry.
What We Offer
• Industry-leading remuneration
• Nationally recognised traineeships (Certificate II, III & IV)
• Modern equipment, including automation and rod-handling systems that reduce manual handling risk
• Exposure to multiple drilling disciplines and resource sectors
• Genuine career progression with an expanding WA drilling contractor
• Ongoing training and mentoring from experienced industry professionals
Key Responsibilities
• Assist the Driller with equipment setup, operation and maintenance
• Water cartage and general site support
• Drill sample collection, handling and presentation
• Vehicle and equipment servicing
• Mobilisation and demobilisation between project sites
• Yard duties and equipment preparation as required
• Keeping the worksite secure, clean and organised
What We're Looking For
Licences and tickets get you in the door — what matters just as much is how you work. This isn't a role for someone chasing a big pay cheque for the bare minimum in return: FIFO drilling means long, physical days on remote sites, and we expect every new starter to pull their weight from day one. If that's not you, please don't apply.
We want people who can show they will:
• Take the initiative to find productive work once core duties are done, rather than waiting to be told
• Treat company vehicles, equipment and assets with the same care they'd give their own
• Hold themselves to a high standard of cleanliness, tidiness and organisation on site
What You'll Need
• Based in Perth
• HR Driver's Licence (or willingness to obtain one shortly after starting)
• White Card, current First Aid Certificate (HLTAID011), and National Police Clearance
• Able to pass a pre-employment medical and drug & alcohol screen
• Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or unrestricted Australian work rights
• Physically fit, with the ability to work long days (12+ hours) in demanding conditions for up to two weeks at a stretch
• Basic maths and good communication skills
• A safety-first, reliable, team-oriented work ethic and willingness to learn
Highly Regarded
• Previous drilling, mining, exploration, construction or civil experience
• HC Driver's Licence
• Mechanical aptitude, or experience operating or maintaining heavy equipment
• Telescopic Materials Handler ticket (RIIHAN309F)
