Where you'll be working
Located at Budyari Gilli, Blacktown Hospital, you’ll join Western Sydney Local Health District’s expanding Mental Health Services and play a pivotal leadership role in a new 20-bed Low Secure Forensic Mental Health Inpatient Unit, opening 13 October 2026.

This is a rare opportunity to help establish a contemporary forensic mental health service from the ground up, shaping its culture, model of care and patient experience from day one.

What you'll be doing
As Nurse Unit Manager Level 2, you’ll provide visible, contemporary clinical and operational leadership,



coordinating patient care while creating an environment where staff can deliver safe, effective and compassionate nursing care.

- Lead and coordinate nursing care at unit level, ensuring high standards of clinical practice, patient safety and quality care.

- Manage people, resources and operations effectively, including human, physical and financial resources within allocated budgets.

- Build and support a collaborative, capable and high-performing nursing team focused on positive patient outcomes.

- Drive improvement and innovation by establishing processes that strengthen performance, service delivery and the patient experience.

- Maintain a protected and professional environment, ensuring practice aligns with NSW Health policies, professional standards, the NSW Health Code of Conduct and CORE values.

Registration: Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia





Selection Criteria:

1. Relevant tertiary qualifications in management, or working towards attainment in same, or extensive clinical experience in a tertiary setting that demonstrates ability to perform the role.

2. Demonstrated ability to lead change that results in sustained improvements in patient care, throughput and resource utilisation.

3. Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills

4. Demonstrated application of evidence based practice and critical thinking to patient care

5. Demonstrated leadership in the development and provision of services that are patient and carer focused

6. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of contemporary issues impacting on Mental Health Nursing
