HSE Manager – Tullamarine Location: Tullamarine, VIC
Pay Rate: $75 per hour
Employment Type: Casual
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am–4:00pm
Weekend Work: No weekend work required
About the Company Our client is a specialist provider of storage and automated storage solutions, delivering major projects across Australia.
The organisation is currently delivering a significant installation project in Tullamarine involving a diverse, international workforce and multiple project stakeholders. The project requires a strong focus on health, safety and environmental compliance, contractor management and operational coordination.
About the Role We are seeking an experienced HSE Manager to take ownership of health, safety and environmental requirements across a major installation project in Tullamarine.
This is a hands-on leadership role working closely with the Site Manager, subcontractors, contractors and key project stakeholders, including the main client.
You will be responsible for ensuring the project operates in accordance with Australian HSE legislation, project requirements and company standards, while driving a proactive safety culture across the site.
The role will operate across two project work periods with a scheduled break in between.
Key Responsibilities
- Take overall responsibility for HSE management across the project site.
- Review and approve subcontractor SWMS, insurance documentation and safety plans.
- Manage HSE requirements relating to scissor lifts, forklifts and other hired equipment, including maintenance and servicing.
- Maintain and update the HSE Management System to ensure compliance with Australian requirements.
- Ensure contaminated and hazardous waste, including silica waste, is correctly identified, segregated and managed.
- Lead daily pre-starts, toolbox talks and safety meetings.
- Work effectively with a multicultural workforce, including Spanish- and German-speaking personnel, and assist with communication and translation where required.
- Deliver and coordinate HSE training for employees and subcontractors.
- Liaise with all project stakeholders, including the main client, on HSE matters.
- Identify, assess and control fall risks, penetrations and other site hazards.
- Develop and maintain HSE documentation, including Working at Heights (WAH), Hot Work Permits (HWP) and emergency plans, including requirements for OSR (Organised Storage and Retrieval) areas.
- Oversee HSE requirements associated with the unloading of sea containers.
- Develop and distribute Safety Alerts.
- Lead and manage incident reporting and investigations, including corrective actions.
- Complete weekly HSE inspections and prepare monthly HSE reports.
- Monitor project HSE performance and ensure HSE KPIs and targets are achieved.
- Work closely with the Site Manager and project leadership team to identify risks and implement effective controls.
- Promote a strong, proactive HSE culture across employees, contractors and subcontractors.
- Ensure all HSE records, documentation and reporting are maintained to a high standard.
About You The successful candidate will have:
- Proven experience as an HSE Manager, HSE Lead or Senior HSE skilled in a construction, installation or major project environment.
- Strong knowledge of Australian WHS/OHS legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated experience managing HSE across construction sites and complex projects.
- Strong experience reviewing SWMS, safety plans and subcontractor documentation.
- Experience with mobile plant, access equipment and site operations.
- Strong incident investigation, reporting and risk management capabilities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Confidence working with subcontractors, contractors, project managers and senior stakeholders.
- The ability to work effectively within a multicultural and multilingual workforce.
- A proactive leadership style with the ability to drive safety standards and influence others.
