About our client
Our client is a specialist consultancy with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality quantum and commercial expert services across the construction and infrastructure sectors. Working across building, infrastructure, marine, industrial and renewable projects, the business is trusted for the quality, precision and commercial rigour of its work. It is a close-knit environment where people are given genuine exposure to complex matters and the opportunity to learn directly from highly experienced practitioners. Quality matters here. The work is detailed, intellectually challenging and rarely repetitive, making this an environment particularly well suited to someone who genuinely enjoys understanding how and why the numbers tell a story.
The prospect
This is an opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor to move into specialist expert work and develop a capability that can significantly broaden their long-term career. Working closely with an experienced senior Quantity Surveyor and supporting experts across the business, you will learn how to analyse complex construction claims, project records, contracts and cost information to support independent expert opinions. One matter could involve assessing delay-related costs on a major construction project. The next could require analysis of additional costs arising from a change in an Australian Standard or determining the cost of repairing damaged marine infrastructure. Every instruction brings a different project, different documents and a different commercial problem to solve. Rather than simply processing information, you will learn to interrogate it, test assumptions and build detailed analysis that can withstand significant scrutiny.
A bit about you
You are someone who notices the detail other people miss.
You enjoy working through large volumes of information, understanding what sits behind the numbers and producing analysis that is accurate, logical and defensible. You are comfortable in Excel and genuinely enjoy using data to solve commercial problems. When something does not reconcile, you want to understand why. When the answer is not immediately obvious, your instinct is to investigate rather than accept something that is simply good enough. You will take ownership of analytical work, ask intelligent questions when you reach a crossroads and progressively develop the judgement to consider not only your own analysis, but how it could be interpreted or challenged by someone else. This is not a role built around business development or being the loudest person in the room. Technical curiosity, precision, intelligence and a willingness to learn will matter considerably more.
Desired skills and experience
You will be a degree-qualified Quantity Surveyor with at least five years of relevant experience gained within construction, contracting or consultancy. Strong Microsoft Excel capability is essential. You should be comfortable manipulating significant volumes of data, building formulas, working with pivot tables and structuring information clearly.
Experience preparing or assessing variations, undertaking measurement,
analysing costs or working through detailed construction records will provide a strong foundation.
You may already be established in Australia or have developed your QS experience internationally and be looking for the right opportunity to build your career in Brisbane. What matters is the quality of your technical foundation, your attention to detail and your willingness to develop.
For the right Quantity Surveyor, this is an chance to move beyond traditional project-based QS work and build a highly specialised capability. You will be trusted with increasingly complex analysis, learn directly from experienced practitioners and develop expertise that can shape the direction of your career for years to come.
Benefits and working arrangements
This is a permanent Brisbane-based position with an attractive remuneration package commensurate with your experience. You will work closely with experienced specialists who will invest significant time in developing your technical capability. The role offers hybrid working flexibility, with the majority of the week spent in the Brisbane office alongside the senior Quantity Surveyor, providing valuable hands-on mentoring and technical development.
You will join a small, trusted team where your contribution is visible and where strong performance can create meaningful longer-term career development.
