The organisation:

Northern Beaches Council is seeking a new independent member for its Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC).

Council’s vision is delivering the highest quality service, valued and trusted by the community, in an effective and productive manner. The ARIC supports the vision by providing independent assurance, oversight and assistance to Council in an advisory capacity.

The role:

We are seeking expressions of interest (EOI) from suitably qualified, experienced and passionate individuals to fill the vacant independent member position.

Membership currently consists of the following members:

- One councillor (non-voting)

Council has implemented Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee Terms of Reference in line with the Office of Local Government's Guidelines for Risk Management and Internal Audit for Local Government in NSW (Guidelines), effective 1 July 2024.

All appointments are to be made based upon a demonstrated ability to meet the independence and eligibility criteria as well as ensuring the ARIC as a whole has a complementary mix of skills/experience.

Council’s ARIC is well established with members experienced in the following areas:

- Financial management

- Legal/compliance

- Business management

- Risk management

- Audit

- Corporate governance.

Therefore, Council would highly value applications from those with experience in:

- Local Government,

including performance measurement

- Operational matters relevant to Northern Beaches Council ie ICT, cybersecurity, innovation and improvement.

Please review the EOI Information Pack for full details of the criteria.

Meetings:

The ARIC meets at least 4 times a year and Council will pay a competitive remuneration rate for independent external membership of the ARIC. This rate will be inclusive of time spent on preparation for the meeting and reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed.

How to Apply:

The closing date for the receipt of expressions of interest by Council is 5pm Tuesday 6 October. Applicants are required to complete the online form and address the independence, essential and desirable criteria and provide a copy of their current resume.

A shortlist of suitable applicants will be asked to progress to a final interview stage. The details of 2 referees are to be provided at the time of interview unless requested otherwise. Please also note that while applicants are not required to provide evidence of qualifications with the expression of interest, Council may request to sight or receive a certified copy of the qualifications prior to appointing an applicant as a member of the ARIC as well as carrying out financial and criminal checks.

All unsuccessful applicants will be notified via email.

Please submit all enquiries regarding this role, to Council’s Executive Manager Governance & Risk, Sarah Dunstan at [email protected]
