Manager Roads and Transport
Moree Plains grows more than a billion dollars of agricultural produce a year, and every tonne of it moves on the shire's roads. With the NSW Government backed Moree Special Activation Precinct set to add current industry and freight demand, the network has never mattered more.
This is the role that owns it: the condition, resilience and strategy of a whole regional road network, a workforce of around 60 and a substantial maintenance and capital program.
The Role
Reporting to the Director Infrastructure, you lead the strategic planning, asset management and operational delivery of Council's roads and transport network, with five direct reports. You own condition inspection, lifecycle planning and the Road Infrastructure Asset Management Plans, the maintenance and capital works program, the sourcing of road-making materials and the engagement of contractors.
The role looks outward too: leading grant applications and negotiations, the Self-Help Roads Partnership Program and relationships with Transport for NSW and the state highway, local road and flood damage programs, and overseeing logistical support for emergency services and flood recovery. You will drive GIS and data analytics, including a shire-wide inspection system on the TfNSW Reflect platform, so every renewal decision is evidence-based.
About You
A degree in civil or transport engineering or a related discipline, ideally with asset management certification.
Extensive experience in the construction and maintenance of roads and civil infrastructure. A record of leading teams and critical projects, managing budgets with discipline and communicating with authority to Councillors, agencies, contractors and crews alike. Local government experience and CAD or GIS capability are desirable. A White Card and Class C driver's licence are required.
Council's values are Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Respectful and Productive. It wants a manager who lives them: forward-thinking, analytical, safety-led and able to prioritise well when the network is under pressure.
Why This Role
A whole regional road network, genuine autonomy and a direct line to the growth story of one of Australia's most productive agricultural regions. Moree offers a relaxed, connected regional lifestyle, the famous artesian hot springs, the Gwydir Valley and space and affordability the cities cannot match. A total remuneration package of $152,880 to $175,797 (inclusive of superannuation) is on offer, and additional incentives may be available to the right candidate.
