About the role
Turn environmental goals into practical outcomes for our island communities.
As the Waste & Environment Coordinator, you will help shape sustainable waste management across TSIRC communities. You'll coordinate environmental initiatives, improve landfill operations, engage communities and stakeholders, and ensure services meet environmental, safety and Council requirements.
This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference—protecting our unique island environment while supporting cleaner, safer and more sustainable communities.
What you'll do
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to promote and improve waste management and achieve project outcomes.
- Deliver community consultations and conduct educational programs, and awareness campaigns for waste management and environmental protection
- Coordinate on-island recycling initiatives, including developing processes, organising infrastructure resources and conducting educational campaigns.
- Ensure compliance with site-based management plans,
including waste policies, procedures and environmental licences.
- Coordinate and deliver environmental programs relating to climate change and sustainability, including the Coastal Hazard Adaptation Strategy
- Support delivery of climate resilience and sustainability initiatives in communities, and work with and support the Climate Resilience Officer Team as required.
- Monitor the performance of Council's coastal defence infrastructure (seawalls) against the impacts of climate change.
- Assist with grant applications and acquittals for environmental projects and community programs.
About you
We need someone who shares our values of One, Respect, Accountability, Courage, and Resilience. Ideally, you will have:
- High level knowledge in waste management and community engagement.
- Sound knowledge of environmental regulations.
- Positive organisational and time management skills.
- Excellent verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on consultation, negotiation and analysis to influence outcomes to achieve project deliverables.
- A current (open and unrestricted) Driver's Licence.
