Dubbo
Join an Australian manufacturer that has been building in Australia for generations
Alford Hydraulics & Engineering is looking for an additional skilled team member to join our manufacturing plant in Dubbo, NSW on day shift.
As Australia’s oldest and longest-standing hydraulic cylinder manufacturer, Alford is proudly committed to Australian manufacturing — and to keeping Dubbo at the heart of what we do.
This is a permanent, full time position for the right person, working indoors at our factory in Douglas Mawson Drive with a friendly, experienced and dedicated team focused on quality, workmanship and customer satisfaction.
This isn't just ordinary production welding - our hydraulic cylinders are generally relatively small, and the welding involved can be more specialised and precise than traditional heavy fabrication or boiler making.
You may be welding small feed tubes to cylinder barrels, requiring you to join different sizes and gauges of material - achieving proper weld penetration without blowing through the lighter material.
It takes control, precision and skill. It's an art we're proud of.
Most of our work is short-run production. Products may be similar, but dimensions, lengths and configurations regularly change, so this is a role for someone who enjoys variety and takes pride in getting the details right.
What you'll be doing
Working under the direction of our Leading Hand, you'll carry out welding and general assembly work while maintaining Alford's quality and safety standards.
Your welding work will include:
- Clevis plates to end plugs
- End plugs to cylinder barrels
- Ports to barrels
- Mounts to rods
- Feed tubes and other cylinder components
- General welding, fabrication and assembly as required
This is where the components manufactured throughout our factory begin coming together to become an Alford Hydraulic Cylinder — built to work harder, longer.
What we're looking for
We are looking for a welder who takes genuine pride in their work.
You'll be well suited to the role if you have:
- A Trade Certificate will be highly regarded
- Strong welding and fabrication skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- A commitment to producing quality work
- The ability to work efficiently and meet production deadlines
- A strong focus on workplace safety
- A dependable, team-focused attitude
- A willingness to learn and share knowledge
- A current forklift licence
Quality and timeliness are both important to us. We want someone who understands the importance of getting the job done — and getting it done properly.
Why join Alford?
The hours are regular. The work is indoors. The team is dependable, experienced and friendly.
Our people enjoy sharing their knowledge and welcome new team members who are keen to learn, contribute and become part of the team.
More importantly, we manufacture here.
Alford has a long history of Australian manufacturing, and we're committed to continuing to manufacture hydraulic cylinders in Dubbo rather than simply importing, assembling or rebranding products made elsewhere.
You'll be joining a company that values skilled people and the role they play in keeping Australian manufacturing alive.
Ready to apply?
Applications through SEEK are preferred.
However, if welding is your thing and the internet isn't, you're also welcome to drop your resume into our factory at:
Alford Hydraulics & Engineering
33 Douglas Mawson Road, Dubbo NSW
All applications will be treated in the strictest confidence.
Applicants must currently reside in Australia and have the legal right to work in Australia.
The position is available immediately — but we're prepared to wait for the right person.
