Senior Storage Engineer – Federal Government

MTP Services is seeking an experienced Senior Storage Engineer to support a major Federal Government environment in Canberra.

This is a senior technical role focused on the design, operation and ongoing evolution of large-scale enterprise storage, backup and data protection platforms supporting critical information assets.

The successful candidate will work across both BAU operations and project delivery, providing specialist expertise across storage architecture, capacity planning, backup and recovery, disaster recovery, infrastructure lifecycle management and associated cybersecurity controls.

The Role As the Senior Storage Engineer, you will be responsible for:

- Designing, maintaining and improving large-scale on-premises storage platforms.
- Developing storage architectures, storage tiers and long-term capacity plans.
- Monitoring storage performance, utilisation, availability and overall platform health.
- Optimising storage environments across a range of enterprise workloads.
- Designing, implementing and managing enterprise backup and recovery solutions.
- Managing off-site replication and data restoration capabilities.
- Supporting Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity planning, testing and improvement.
- Managing and supporting LTO tape libraries and archival storage operations.
- Coordinating firmware upgrades, patching and infrastructure lifecycle replacement.
- Supporting data preservation and integrity management solutions.
- Implementing and improving cybersecurity controls across core infrastructure.
- Providing senior technical advice across storage, server, virtualisation, networking and broader infrastructure environments.
- Supporting infrastructure procurement, technical evaluations and vendor management.
- Producing and maintaining technical documentation, procedures and operational standards.




- Troubleshooting complex infrastructure and storage-related issues.
- Supporting continuous improvement across technology operations.

About You
To be successful, you will bring:

- At least 5 years' experience designing, implementing, maintaining and managing large-scale enterprise storage environments.
- Solid experience with enterprise storage architecture and capacity management.
- Strong hands-on experience across enterprise backup, recovery and replication technologies.
- Experience supporting highly available and business-critical infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of storage performance, resilience, data integrity and lifecycle management.
- Experience with Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity environments.
- Experience troubleshooting complex infrastructure issues across interconnected systems.
- Strong documentation and stakeholder communication skills.
- The ability to work autonomously and provide senior-level technical advice.

- SAN/NAS technologies.
- Enterprise backup platforms.
- LTO tape libraries and archival storage.
- Virtualised server environments.
- Storage networking.
- Infrastructure monitoring and performance management.
- Government ICT environments.
- Federal Government procurement and vendor management.

Clearance Requirements
Candidates must hold, or be eligible to obtain, an Australian Government Baseline Security Clearance.
Australian Citizenship will therefore be required.
